"F~ you!" Skylar spat. He'd managed to sit and to get his legs over the side of the bed, but was fighting one hell of a headache and vision that didn't want to cooperate. "I don't want Wynne, I want Charlotte! F~..." He intended to put his head between his hands, but lost his balance and began to topple forward.

Michael reached forward and caught Skylar easily, heaving him back onto the bed and dragging him horizontal again. "At the very least stay on the bed, man," he said. "You're going to kill yourself focusing on wanting her and refusing to listen to help. You'll probably never stop wanting her, but you've got to move on with your life. Otherwise, Ember gets to grow up knowing her father killed her mother and then drank himself to death."

Skylar lashed out with his fists when he couldn't find his wand, though he had no real intention of punching Michael. He wanted out, he didn't want to deal with this. He'd killed her. Other deaths he'd seen or caused paled into nothing against that one.

Katia would have been back sooner had she not been in the middle of a very important firecall. She entered the room with her wand out and sent a powerful stunning spell at her patient. "I told you not to get him wound up, Professor Blackwood-Hardt," she said. "And yet I left for only a brief time and returned to find my patient half conscious and on the verge of a heart attack. I am going to have to ask you to leave."

Michael remained standing, glaring at Katia, though she only deserved part of the anger. "There were some things he needed to hear, nurse," he said. "I trust you're good enough at your job to keep him alive." It was a little more bitter and sharp than he should probably have spoken, but he shrugged away the thought. "I need to know how he's doing."

"I will not have you disturbing my patients," Katia said, turning toward the professor. He back straightened and she tipped up her chin, posture regal as befitting a woman of her background and status. "I cannot keep him alive if his health is being sabotaged. You may return after eight o-clock, during normal visiting hours."

"I'm not sabotaging anything, Katia," Michael said, but shook his head and ran a hand through his hair. "I'll leave, but I'm not waiting until eight to get information. I want updates, okay? Remember, I have his daughter, I think just because of that I deserve to know what's going on. You can send updates with an elf." If the man took a bad turn or tried to leave, he wanted to know.

"As you are not a family member, I cannot, by law, release such information," Katia said. "I made an exception for you earlier, but you have proven yourself incapable of remaining calm and of respecting my position as nurse. Please exit my Hospital Wing. I will accept you back no earlier than eight o'clock."

Michael considered himself very calm, considering the events of the night. "I am, more or less, all he has. I have an elf of my own." And he could send her to pester for an update or grab records, whatever was necessary. If Skylar ended up needing a long-term hospital stay, he needed to know, not only because Ember was currently asleep in his tower. He turned to leave.
