"Just thought you'd want to know that Andy's not sitting in a corner alone," Dare said. He collapsed back into one of the Moreaus' squashy armchairs and stretched his legs comfortably. He'd been sure that Rhys would be interested in how the elder of his newly-official foster kids was doing.
"I was heading to class this morning a little later than usual and I turned a corner to find him..." How could he put this without it sounding worse than it was?
"He was pressed against the wall either snogging or about to be snogging, I didn't look that close. I don't think the other guy's dangerous, he hangs out with Indigo's old friends, but he's one of those kids you know has more going on than they'll admit. He turned around and about spit fire before he recognized me. Then it was all polite-for-the-professor, and Andy took off, like four shades of red.
"It was pretty funny. Michael and I had our first kiss broken up by a professor."

Rhys closed his eyes briefly, but folded himself into the loveseat instead of immediately commenting. "I'm sure you'll say it's funny when it's your kid trying to snog before class," he said when he opened his eyes to look at his friend. "He's only fourteen...but I guess I should have expected something like that. You don't think I should be worried?"

"Honestly, I don't know," Dare admitted. "That's why I'm talking to you. Not a dangerous kid means I don't think he'd knock someone around, doesn't look like he's into drugs, does well in classes. But this is the first week of school. Stuff happens fast sometimes, it's not like I've never been there, but I was lucky." As for that comment about his own kids, he was fully aware that he'd be stalking corridors once they were school-age.

A sudden, distinct wave of feeling out of place washed over Rhys. His teenage years had been so out of the ordinary that it was difficult to relate. When he was fourteen, he'd attempted suicide, not snogging the first week of school. Matthew had had an entirely different experience that was probably closer to snogging the first week of school, but the man wasn't here right now.
"I wonder if he's even ever been talked to about this kind of thing. I mean, I really doubt his last foster parents cared." The kids hadn't even been taken to see their mother by anyone in the last few years. Would someone who was uninterested in that even care enough to tell a kid what an STD was?

"Most guys learn that stuff from their friends," Dare said. "By the time my dad sat me and Silver down, I'd heard all about everything and told it to Silver in detail." And obviously some things hadn't sunk in all the way, considering his brother's shotgun wedding. Possibly also the fact that Dare's first exposure to 'protection' had been with a Muggle woman.

Rhys hadn't learned it from his friends. To tell the truth, he hadn't learned it from his parents or school teachers, either. Vague fantasies and internet searches better suited for a ten year old than someone who'd just turned sixteen had been the extent of his education. "He doesn't have friends, though," he said. "Maybe I should talk to him about it. But I wouldn't even know what to say." Or maybe he would. Don't rush, use protection, sex is great but not a gotta catch 'em all experience

"You tell him that sex is a great thing," Matthew said, stepping onto the landing from the staircase. The lower door opened relatively quietly and was easy to miss, so he'd heard a bit of the conversation. He leaned down to unhook Mag's leash, and the dog bounded ahead of him into the living room. "Then you tell him all of that cheesy stuff about waiting for the right one, then you give him a handful of condoms." His parents hadn't exactly been afraid of the talk.

"Do wizards use condoms too?" Dare asked, looking back at Matthew. He shrugged. "I'd only kind of heard about them until a couple years ago. My dad said something about a spell or a potion or something, but I pretty much tuned him out." His head had been full of a lot of yeah, yeah, I know and oh my god, when will this end?

"Putting on a condom is a hell of a lot easier than trying to do magic when you're turned on," Matthew reasoned. "I mean, with a spell you never know if you did it right. With a rubber, you're at least pretty sure you're safe. Mum always made sure I had a couple whenever I was home. She was all you're going to do it, might as well be safe."

Rhys scoffed, "And my parents wouldn't even let me attend the school classes about sex." Another thing he'd missed out on as a teenager. "But don't go acting like you were all okay with condoms, Matthew, you tried to talk me out of them at first." It had only been the first couple of times before they were both newly tested, but his husband still hadn't been too keen on the idea.

Matthew grinned and, after circling the room to settle briefly behind Rhys' chair, pressed a short kiss to his husband's head. "Hey, it feels better without. Wearing one is like trying to f~ a plastic bag," he claimed. Then his gaze flickered toward Dare. "Not that I'm trying to say they're a bad thing, but it's always better without. I'm probably not helping the conversation, am I?"

Dare chuckled. "Nope," he agreed. Better without. That was a thought he didn't need. He fully intended to leave that summer in the past. But then, there was that little experiment he and Michael had talked about...
Dare cleared his throat. "Maybe you just leave out the whole it feels better without thing," he suggested.

"Fine, I'll make sure to not say that," Matthew said. It did feel better, but he'd rather not end up with a foster kid who had some kind of STD. "Am I allowed to talk about how much fun sex can be, professor?" He felt a hint of disapproval from Rhys, but fell into the couch instead of acknowledging it. Mag considered begging for some play time, but ended up flopping down in front of his water bowl and lapping at the cool drink.

Dare's lips quirked. "He's not my kid," he said. "I came by to tell you guys that I found Andy pinned to a wall by a Goth kid about to get his face eaten." And possibly more, by the look Mr. Catalyst had given him. "Andy seemed really unsure of himself when we met, so I didn't know if you wanted to do something about it or let it go. You're in a tough spot not knowing where your kids have been or who's told them what." Speaking of which... "Where's the other one?"

Matthew propped his feet on the scuffed coffee table and crossed his ankles. "With my parents, likely attempting to bake cookies with my mum," he said. Cookies had at least been on the itinerary when he'd dropped Tam off at his parents' place. When his gaze settled again on Rhys, it was somewhat more serious. "You're the one who normally works with kids like Andy."
