Aiden had just gotten word he would still be on the reserve team for the Arrows in the upcoming season and his broom had promptly decided to start flying crooked. The faithful, speedy Firebolt he had (not first generation, of course, only the newest and best for him) was protected against the harsh, chill wind outside by a protective case that was propped against his shoulder. The tip of his emohawke peeked out from beneath a toboggan on his head. Maybe the owner of the shop could help fix his broom, since his little care kit hadn't been enough.

Ryan came into the front of the store to see someone he did not recognize. "Welcome to Quality Quidditch. How is it that I can help you?" He asked, smiling and seeing the case on his shoulder. He took in the full image of him, seeming to be a pretty good build for a quidditch player. "Can I interest you in some of our new broom accessories, or perhaps a new broom all together?"

"No, man, I don't need a new one," Aiden said, a broad, white smile spreading over his lips. "This is my baby, you know? She just needs a bit of help. She pulls to the right and I can't figure out why." He needed a quick fix, too, because the broom needed to be ready for the next practice. He couldn't show up with a wounded broom.

Ryan smiled and nodded "I understand that. Well if you go ahead and put it on the table here I should be able to fix that for you. So Who do you play for?" He asked as he waited to see the broom to see what he could do to fix it.

"The Appleby Arrows, I'm on the reserves," Aiden said as he pulled his beloved broom off his shoulder and laid it, case and all, on the table. He unbuttoned the case carefully and laid it out. "I'd just gotten the owl and she started pulling funny. I thought maybe you'd be able to help, o master shopkeeper." Any worry about his broom was hidden beneath his smile.

Ryan smiled and chuckled a little "Very nice, congrats on the call up." He said as he started looking over the broom, passing his wand over it and muttering a few spells to check what was wrong. After a few minutes he finished and looked up "It's odd. Not really sure what is causing it too pull. It shouldn't be too much of a problem to fix though. If I have a problem or need more time you can have another broom from here on the house until I can work out the problem with this one."

Aiden shook his head. "Nah, I have a backup, I'm just so used to the speed on this one that it'd be weird." He was silent for a little while while the man looked at his broom and he folded his arms and rested them on the table top. "How'd you get into the quidditch business?" He'd met more than a couple of quidditch shop keepers, coaches, and refs who had gotten their jobs due to injuries or other reasons they were unable to pursue a career.

Ryan returned to running his wand over the broom performing spell that he could think of to potentially fix the problem "I decided to give up the game while still in school. I was good, likely could have went pro, but a lot of personal things happened in my life that led to me giving it up. I have thought about trying to get back in shape and trying out somewhere, but I don't know if I will or not."

"Give it a try, there's always someone looking, you know? I mean, we don't need third and fourth strings normally, but there are a few looking for some backups," Aiden said. "I mean, I thought I was good but I'm nowhere near as good as the first string on the Arrows. They know it, too, they give me hell for it all the time. It's a lot of fun."

Ryan smiled "It has crossed my mind. I think any chance I had of being on a first team ended when I gave it up several years ago. I have also thought about either getting into coaching or commentating as well. I think at this point I might be better suited for one of those two." He finished and he looked up "Let's see if this worked." he raised his wand and the broom lifted up. He flicked his wand and the broom started gliding forward, but then started drifting to the right. He shook his head and brought the broom back. "That didn't do it, but there is still more I can try."

Only a little disappointment entered Aiden's expression when the guy's attempt didn't work, and it took a moment for him to perk up and speak again. "Commentators are important, you know? A lot of people assume we can't hear them or something, like the crowd, but we can, and if they criticize something a lot of players will try to fix it. It doesn't affect us as much as coaching, obviously, but it helps. I've noticed a lot of coaches have some professional experience." He thought it was a good idea to at least warn the guy.

Ryan nodded "Yea I know, if I went the coaching route I would probably try to get on as an assistant somewhere and work my way up. I have always loved commentating. Did it in the muggle world for a little while with the muggle sport baseball. Also was a ref, or umpire in their terms, for baseball as well. It was a lot of fun, even though I got yelled at a lot." he finished with a laugh. As he muttered another spell the broom gave a light glow for a brief moment and then the glow faded away. Ryan smiled and looked up "I think that did it." He raised his wand again to lift the broom and let it glide forward, this time flying completely straight until Ryan stopped it just short of the wall.

Aiden's grin widened and his eyes lit. "That's awesome, man, thanks," he said. "I don't know a ton of people in the game yet, but I could give you some names to owl and maybe you'll get lucky, who knows, right? To be honest, if you haven't played the game it'll be hard to get the players on board. And you know it's just fun to yell at the ref," he finished, a teasing hint in his voice. A lot of it was anger when someone yelled at the ref, but there was a lot of joking, too.

Ryan laughed, handing the broom back to the guy. "Oh yea, I know it's fun. I love when people try to say I don't know the rules. I just laugh in their faces." Ryan laughed.

"That's a good way to get a bludger sent to your head, mate," Aiden said. Not that he ever had the chance to shoot a bludger toward an annoying ref, but he'd seen it happen. Naturally, no one would ever admit to it, but it was an unmistakable part of the game that anyone would be stupid to pretend it didn't exist.
