Lyric was panting, the stress alone enough to exhaust him. "I wouldn't... I wasn't... I don't know!" he shouted. He wouldn't have beaten Jory up, he just wanted him to stay, wanted someone to stay, whether they wanted it or not. "I wasn't gonna hit you!"

"Then let me go!" Jory yelled back. "You act all cold, then you get pissed at me for no reason, and then you throw me up against a wall and then you kiss me? I wanted to go say thank you to you because we'd been through so much and now you're not making any sense! Should I have just shut up and not said anything in the first place?" This was ridiculous.

Lyric pushed hard against Jory's shoulders as he threw himself away from the wall. "Fine, go!" he barked. "Go, like everyone else! I don't need you, I don't need anyone!" He didn't need Keith, he didn't need his mom, didn't need anyone any more than they needed him.

"Hey!" Keith said, his eyes flashing. He hadn't seen more than that final push, though he had heard the yelling a corridor down. His wand was out by the time he stopped by the two. "Jory, go to your common room. Trent, you have no right to manhandle students. What are you thinking?"

"Professor?" And Jory was confused all over again for a few moments before he realized that Professor Evans must have been who Lyric was coming to see. Why else would the professor call Lyric Trent? His eyes darted between the two in disbelief before he turned and hurried away.

"You have no right!" Lyric said, turning on Keith now. "You don't know me, you don't know anything!" He wasn't manhandling students anyway, he was trying to talk to Jory, trying to hold onto sanity with rapidly-tearing fingernails. "That was none of your g~damn business so go back to your f~ing life and stay the hell out of mine!"

"What the hell is wrong with you, Trent? Don't you dare curse at me when I did nothing wrong. You showed up, unannounced, and I had company. I can't dump my visitor just because you came by," Keith said. He did not appreciate what Trent was doing, especially since it was in the middle of the school and not exactly after hours. There was a chance that someone could walk up on them.

"F~ you! I'm not a f~ing student so don't talk down to me! What are you gonna do, give me detention? Pretentious f~ing bastard, you're just like everyone else!" He didn't have to take this. He stormed past Keith to leave, knocking him hard in the shoulder on his way past. He was out of here, he was done with this, done with everything.

"Trent, stop it! I listened to you, I comforted you, I helped you, and I would have done it again if you needed it. Perhaps if you had told me something was up instead of storming off I could have helped you out a bit," Keith said, firmly telling himself to ignore that push to his shoulder. That wasn't important right now.

"Don't f~ing pretend you care!" Lyric shouted, turning again to glare fiercely at Keith. "I went to you like you said and you said come back tomorrow. Look at me! Did you really think I was there for a quick f~? Don't f~ing lie to me, I'm not that stupid!" He pulled his wand, but he didn't point it at Keith. He pointed it toward himself. "Walk away, Keith," he said, the low, almost dangerous tone of his voice choked off at the end.

"Trent, put the wand down," Keith said carefully. "I handled it badly, and I apologize. My head was in another place." Well this was an unexpected, horrible turn of events. He had never had to talk someone down before. What the hell was he supposed to say to stop this from becoming even worse?

"Yeah, f~ing make excuses like everyone else," Lyric taunted, his wand's tip disappearing into his hair. "You don't own me, I'm nothing to you so just f~ing walk away, f~ing leave me alone and maybe I'll go do it where you won't have to clean it up." He was sick of this. This time he wouldn't fail, he'd do it and he wouldn't have to deal with any of this crap anymore.

Keith watched Trent, unsure if the decision looming before him was the right one to make. He didn't think he would have much longer to decide, though, and a moment later he had cast a disarming spell. With the wand out of the picture Trent wouldn't be as dangerous. He couldn't let Trent do what he was threatening to do.

Lyric was in shock as his wand jumped from his hand, and his eyes widened at the loss. He tried to reach for it, to catch it out of the air before it was out of reach, but his fingertips only brushed the handle, sending it spinning off to the side and clattering nearer to Keith than to him. There was real fear in his eyes as they found Keith's, fear, anger, self-hatred, desperation and vulnerability, and he tensed, ready to run. "This is none of your business," he choked.

"It is my business," Keith said, grabbing the wand. "And I won't let you off yourself. Now, I don't know what the hell set you off tonight but you've got to pull yourself together or get some help or something. What can I do?" Sex wasn't an option, he didn't think he could justify something like that with Trent in the state he was in, even if his apartment had been empty of Rowan.
