Chase stood as well, his eyes narrowing at Mrs. Seyrrou's better solution. The contract was signed. His father had some deal with the Singh's worked out which had nothing to do with the betrothal, and when the man had chosen Carolynn for him, the decision was final. There was nothing which would change his mind. If Carolynn ruined Chase, his father didn't care, so long as he still had power, as long as his deal went through, and in the United States, he was untouched by this. It was infuriating!
Chase walked Mrs. Seyrrou to the door, loathing her for her weakness and inability to act. Why had Storm sent her? He put on an urbane smile that didn't reach his fiery eyes. "It was a pleasure seeing you again," he lied. He was burning with anger that he had wasted so much time only to be reminded that he was well and truly stuck with Carolynn when someone he preferred was willing to take her place. All the same, he held himself in control and lifted Mrs. Seyrrou's hand to press a kiss against it. When you leave this room, you leave a great chance.

Chase was locked, there was nothing she could do about it and nothing that he could do without going through extreme measures and as he wasn't willing to do it, she could do nothing to help him. It wasn't a big concern of her's to begin with, while having her daughter married off to Chase would be beneficial, there were others her daughter could eventually settle in with after much convincing.
She took a step towards the door, and turned back. "The pleasure was all mine. I wish you the best of luck." Eirene felt like the whole thing was a waste of time, her daughter wanted something she could not have and Eirene was is no position to meddle in another family's business, unless she had a relationship with the Firebrands, which she did not have, she could do nothing for her daughter and Chase.

Chase closed the door after seeing Mrs. Seyrrou out, and his eyes blazed with fury. He may as well have spoken to himself for all the good that had done. She'd given him nothing! She'd turned down every suggestion he'd made, telling him that each and every avenue was closed without offering any of the loopholes he knew existed in everything.
And her suggestion, to make her daughter appear more desireable than Carolynn! Did she not understand how things worked? Carolynn was only part of the deal. She was a token thrown into Mr. Singh's part of whatever bargain he and Chase's father had made.
The Seyrrous would need far more than a better daughter, because his father didn't care who he married, so long as she was Pure, and he got something out of it. Mrs. Seyrrou hadn't been interested in bargaining, she had come hoping that he had a simple solution. Why, if he had a solution, would he not have used it himself?
His office was a mess by the time he'd finished raging, and he set a spell to right things as he left. He was going to see Dru, to work out his dissapointments in a more constructive, but no less physical, fashion.
