Brindle nodded, then turned suddenly, ducking down to look through the nearest free telescope. "I like that runes aren't set like some things," she said, carrying on the conversation even as she tried to find all the planets Jory had been talking about. "Well, they are, but interpretation is half the fun. And it's not like tasseography, where there's like a hundred shapes in the tea leaves and you're supposed to decide what they look like."

"Most of divination is interpretation, it's easy to screw it up. If you're good, though, you get it right on." Like Professor Sebastian at the festival thing, that had been almost scary in how good he had been. Jory thought it was cool when it all came out to be true, even when it turned out to be not so great.

Brindle pulled back a bit from the telescope and nodded, then looked over at Jory. "I've got a friend who's pretty good at it," she said. "He doesn't do it very often, though. He's mostly into drawing." She'd heard at least once that he was playing guitar again, but she wasn't entirely sure she believed the girl who'd said it.

"Really?" Jory asked. "Who is it?" He hadn't found anyone that was really into it, especially not as much as he was. It would be nice to find someone to talk to and trade thoughts and ideas with. Things were looking up lately, but maybe that was because there hadn't been much opportunity for things to screw up. Maybe this was a good thing.

Brindle glanced aside at Jory. "Dare Blackwood. Hardt," she added. She always forgot that part, but honestly, he'd been Alasdair Blackwood so long that she still called him Alasdair half the time. She was doing pretty well, actually. "You know him?" Most people knew of him, but knowing him was a completely different thing.

"Yeah, I've talked to him before, and I went to a club with the group on his anniversary." Okay, so no, Jory wasn't like...Dare's best friend or anything, but he knew him, at least a little. "It was fun, I hope it's, like, a yearly thing." As long as he didn't end up going home with someone he had just met each time.

Brindle's lips parted, and she gave a small, put-upon huff before turning back to the telescope in front of her. They'd gone to a club for his and Michael's anniversary and they'd invited someone who'd talked to him before, and not her? "Just... ignore that," she said, glaring into the telescope. They could invite whoever the hell they wanted. Just because they'd always gone clubbing together at SWIM didn't mean anything. Except that Dare was a massive jerk now!

Jory's eyes dropped and he brought his hands in front of him. "Sorry, I wasn't really invited by them, my friend Lyric was invited by their friend, and Lyric invited me. It was a gay club." He didn't think that she would want to go there, anyway. It wasn't exactly a place a lot of girls would feel comfortable, much less straight ones. She was, wasn't she?

Brindle blinked, and maybe the back of her neck pricked with a bit of shame for having gotten so upset, but she hadn't known. "It's fine," she said. After a moment she looked aside at Jory again. "We just used to go out a lot. All of us, I mean, not just us." He'd never seen her as anything but Markise's kid sister.

"Oh," Jory said, looking back up at Brindle. "It was the first time I had really been to a club except the Bloody Mary." And it had been so much fun. Sure, he regretted the whole Robbie thing, but he had had fun while it happened, just looking back on it wasn't all too fun. "Maybe there will be another trip."

Brindle nodded lightly, then gave a brief shrug. If they hadn't invited her before, they wouldn't invite her next time. Dare seemed to still think she was eleven, and she was sure she wouldn't have gotten to go clubbing in 4th Year if he hadn't been distracted with Amber and her brother hadn't apparently been distracted with Jackass. "I wouldn't have any problem going, but I'm the little sister of the group, so they think they're protecting me from something. Nothing I didn't see anyway," she added under her breath. Oh, she could not imagine a whole club full of guys like that. She didn't know how she'd keep from staring!

"If you want to go sometime, I'd go with you," Jory said. "Just don't let me drink." That had probably been his downfall. Of course, if he had been with someone he knew and at least vaguely trusted it probably wouldn't have ended up like it had before. "Unless you wanted to just go to the Bloody Mary, it's fun and I don't think there's nearly as much that can go wrong when you go there."

As much as Brindle's curiosity begged to be taken to a gay club, she just didn't know Jory well enough to do something like that. And did everyone drink? Everyone but Dare, anyway. "The Bloody Mary's fine," she said. "I've never even been there, and I've been at Hogwarts for two years. Pathetic, right?"

Jory shook his head. "No, not really. I've only been there a couple of times, and the first time was because of Markise." He wished he had been able to get a friendship with Markise, but it seemed like he was unable to say anything right. It was probably best not to hope anymore. "You just have to decide what day you want to go, now that they have all the different theme things."

Brindle's eyes widened momentarily. "Of course you know Markise," she said. "I didn't even know he was talking to Dare anymore, but he was at the party too, wasn't he?" She needed to hunt her brother down and talk to him when he got back from New York. Ever since he'd moved into his shop, she'd hardly seen him. "He's my brother," she explained.
