It was so strange seeing Michael so completely unselfconscious. Dare felt that freedom too, and the confidence that Michael radiated began to radiate from him as well. There was nothing in the world but this moment. Nothing but the look in those earthy brown eyes and the lights shining off deep red waves of hair. Dare's arms encircled Michael's waist and he moved them together, marveling at it all.

This felt so good, so right, and Markise felt drunk off it all. Just being with Dare again, being his best friend, being noticed and wanted, made him dizzy with unbridled joy. He threw his head back and laughed, the sound lost to the pounding of the music. This was all he wanted in the world right now.

Dare couldn't pull his eyes from Michael. This was so unreal, so different that it attracted him like a niffler to gold. He dipped his head, unable to keep his lips from seeking Michael's neck or his arms from tightening around his waist. They wouldn't make it here an hour, no matter how they tried. They'd be home long before midnight.

Markise-Michael gasped, the intensity of Dare's attention cutting through even the ecstasy of the dance. "Dare," he gasped. His arms lowered, wrapping tightly around him and clinging just to stay upright. "Later," he pleaded. Now.

Dare groaned lightly. Michael was right, they'd come all this way. But he could feel how much Michael wanted this and it didn't make sense to hold back. "This is too much for a booth," he murmured, his lips hardly leaving Michael's neck for a moment. Then he raised his head and his eyes sought Michael's. "Let's go home," he said. "I want to go home."

Markise's heart skipped at the look in Dare's eyes, and for a moment he was dizzy from it. Then somehow he remembered to breathe and somehow kept himself from simply nodding and whispering anything you say. "I got us a room at the Leaky Cauldron," he said instead. "I want us to have fun. Let's not go home, I have the key."

They were in London so the Leaky Cauldron was closer, but they normally apparated from the nearest alley anyway so it didn't matter. It didn't make sense to pay for a room when they had their bedroom, but Dare's thought process was hampered by the desire to leave. "All right, let's go," he said. If Michael had paid for a room, it would be a waste not to use it.

Markise's nerves didn't hit until the door to their rented room shut behind them. Then he realized what he was doing and what he was about to do. He wanted it so badly! "I love you," he said, turning to wrap his arms around the back of Dare's neck.

"I love you too," Dare said. His eyes met Michael's, and he could see all the emotion there. His heart constricted with it, and all he could do was gather his lover into his arms and bring their lips together. A rush of slick, sweet cherry greeted him and as small a detail as that might have been, it nearly undid him. "You're wearing... cherry chap stick," Dare said through heavy breaths.

Markise was still reeling from the kiss, however short it had been. "For... for you," he managed. Oh, this was too much. He tipped his head up and begged another kiss with the firm press of his lips to Dare's. Markise-Michael's body was demanding and he wasn't the least bit shy about asking for what he wanted.

It was so strange seeing Michael so demanding. He normally hinted, then left it to Dare to put the pieces together and give him what he wanted. This was intense and there was no hesitance about it. Dare's brows drew together as he tried to keep up, to give everything that was being asked for. It was a wild ride and one that left him dizzy and breathless. I love you, he breathed.

I love you, Markise echoed. He curled into Dare's arms and it felt almost like it used to. He was more aware now, and though his feelings hadn't changed, he could feel the difference in Dare. He could feel how much Dare loved him, or this version of him.
But time had passed, and the polyjuice was wearing off. That deep red hair was paling quickly to blond as were those brown eyes as they shifted to blue. He pressed light kisses against Dare's chest and wished that this didn't have to come to an end.

Ideas had crept into Dare's mind during those first kisses. He knew Michael's kiss, and he knew Markise's. He knew Michael's distaste for lip gloss and his discomfort with showing himself to anyone but him. The thoughts had built up without recognition until now, as he lay with his eyes closed and tried to pretend that he couldn't feel the differences.
But Markise was smaller, and it made him feel stronger by comparison. Markise's hair was so unbelievably soft, something he'd missed when they'd been friends and during those couple months they'd been more. Markise had given him this night. He knew, and he kept his eyes closed rather than opening them and facing the truth.

This moment was perfection. He had Dare, if only for a night, and all his years of curiosity, of wanting from such a close distance and being unable to touch, were over. Dare was everything he'd dreamed and more. Dare was the other half of him that could never be put back together. "I love you," he whispered.

Dare's arms tightened around Markise. He wanted to comfort him, to tell him that he'd always been good enough, he'd always been the best friend that he could have dreamed up, but that he'd found Michael before he realized how close they really were. Part of him was glad this had happened, that he'd been able to give this to Markise, who had done so much for him over the years and asked so little.
Memories played in his mind as he drifted toward sleep. Going out together, playing his guitar and singing together by the fountain in the courtyard, Markise refusing to give up on him when he'd been taking those potions, his pale blue eyes lighting up after every break from school and all those seemingly-innocent hugs that had meant so much. His mind drifted and his hand swept lightly over silky skin. "I love you too."
