A Mess (Ocean/Jory)

[Jory Addison]

"I never got to go," Jory said. "I wanted to try one out, but Markise just kept on about how there are bad men there that'll do things if you're not careful and he got mad at me for wanting to try it, then left." He still wanted to go, he really didn't think anything would happen to him if he was careful. Nothing could happen, especially if he was with someone, right?

"Markise? Another gay guy?" Interesting. Ocean could see a group forming already. Maybe England wouldn't be so bad. He could go to clubs. The Royal Acadamy. Maybe his life didn't have to change so much. "I'm sure he meant well. There are predators at clubs. Straight and Gay clubs. It's best to go with a friend. That way you don't get carried away. Literally or figuratively."

"I wanted to go with him," Jory said. "He just got mad and left. Now I don't have anyone to go with." He couldn't see a group forming, not when he couldn't keep a friend for more than a few meetings. "I thought I might, for a little while a couple of weeks ago, but he freaked out every time he touched me so that didn't happen." He hadn't even seen Jamie in the halls.

"Well you can go with me. If there are other people they should come. God I could really use a good free dance." He grinned over at Jory. "Dancing is like drugs to me. Better than a cigarette. Ballet is awesome. Sometimes you just need a good grind though." Not that it would go further than a dance grind. But being close to someone. Dancing with them. It was like the real ocean. It washed away all evidence of discontent.

"I've never danced with anyone," Jory said. The time with Quinn and Markise didn't count, not really. "I don't really know how. You'd have to promise not to laugh at me." He didn't think Ocean would, he didn't seem like the kind of guy that would. No, he didn't need to let his guard down. The last time he had let his guard down he had ended up with Jamie the very first time they had met.

"Dancing isn't something to over think. You just kind of go with it." Ocean started humming a tune as he shifted his feet to the beat. He used his quill as a prop. Even as his arms joined in. It was a loose pop lock. He might be classically trained. In his free time he experimented though. "You let the music tell you what to do. It might start with a foot tap. Add a twirl." He made something basic look advanced. The premise was the same though. It was how you started.

Jory smiled as he watched, though he still doubted that there would be any kind of ease for him when it came to dancing, especially with someone. "We'll see how well I can go with it." He was having an actual conversation. It was so strange...it shouldn't be strange, it wasn't right for it to be strange, but it was.

"Show me something." He started a different tune. Upbeat. Almost techno. If he had an idea of what Jory was working with he might be able to help. For people that just moved their hips it might be adding arms. Vice versa was true as well. Ocean caught his own foot tapping to the beat of the music. So easy to get caught up in the need to move with music.

Jory's eyes dropped and he shook his head, though his smile remained, however shy a smile it was. He wasn't going to dance in the middle of a corridor in the school where anyone could see. What little confidence he had left was barely enough for him to wear his jewelry and walk through the halls, much less start dancing.

Ocean looked up and down the corridors. They appeared deserted for the minute. "Come on. I'll do a pirouette. And you tap your toes." With a silly grin spread across his face Ocean attempted an immature version of a pirouette. Imitating the pink ballerinas in music boxes. One hand stretched above his head. One elbow bent near his waist. One foot tucked against his knee. It was hard with street shoes. Then he twirled. What was meant to be a joke, shone through with his experience. A deep look of concentration on his face.

Jory looked up at Ocean and watched as he moved. It didn't exactly make him any more willing to attempt to dance in the middle of the corridor, whether people were coming or not. It felt too open, and he didn't know Ocean well enough to just do something like that. Once, he may have done it with Layne or something, but even she was long gone. "You're way too good."

"I've had years of practice. Since I was three." Jory wasn't biting. It seemed a shame. But not everyone felt comfortable dancing. "When we go to the club no one will be staring at you. Don't worry. If you want to wait to try. I'll make sure I teach you then. It would be easier before hand." Mostly because he wanted to be out dancing with everyone that was there. It wasn't a club if you didn't enjoy yourself.

"Sorry, I..." don't have a lot of confidence. Jory couldn't say that, not to someone like Ocean. He felt almost embarrassed at how he felt when he saw how confident Ocean was. "I just never did a lot of that kind of stuff." But he wanted to go to a club so badly, he wanted to know what it was like to be surrounded by acceptance instead of hate.

"Don't be sorry." Ocean looked at Jory, really looked at him through blonde bangs. "Never be sorry for who you are." He pointed to Jory. "You're special in your own way." He pointed to himself. "Me. I'm good at dancing. I've spent all of my life making sure I could dance. As a student. I'm average. I do decently, but I'm no Granger. You're what sixteen?" Maybe he was seventeen. "You've got a lifetime to learn to dance."

Jory smiled, and it actually reached his eyes, which sparkled softly. "I need a lifetime," he said. "And..seventeen now." Not that he had been able to celebrate or anything. He hadn't even been able to go get his belly button pierced like he had wanted so badly to do. "How old are you?" he asked. He had never been good at guessing ages.
