Jamie headed down the lake as most students were headed to dinner. He preferred to be alone rather than shoved into a loud, crowded hall. He waved his wand around aimlessly as he strolled the rocky edge of the lake. The fact that he had nothing better to do than to climb over some rocks by a lake while shooting meaningless sparks out of his wand was proof enough that this school was boring. He hadn't had many friends, most of the guys he knew of weren't worth the time of day and the girls...well they kept him entertained. A smirk spread across his lips. No, there was nothing at all boring about that part of the school.
Jamie nearly fell into the lake. That's what happens when you aren't paying attention. His eyes scanned over the lake. He hadn't realized that he had gone far enough to be practically in the woods. A shadow moved in the darkness of the night. He squinted his eyes trying to make out what it was, but he couldn't. He assumed it was an animal and moved on.

Jory hadn't meant to stay in the woods for so long, but it was easy to lose track of time when the forest was a place where few students ventured. Well, at least the ones that went didn't care that he was there. He normally stayed away from people nowadays, but this evening was different. When he saw the sparks from the tip of a wand he couldn't turn away. He followed from a distance, curiosity getting the better of him. Besides, he had seen a flash of the guy whose wand was shooting sparks and wanted a better look.

Jamie had the feeling he was being followed. His back stiffened immediately, but instead of turning around to see who it was he kept walking. He kept his wand still and ready. His fingers curved over the smooth wood finish, ready to throw a hex at any moment. Jamie wasn't scared, just prepared for anything.
Jamie stopped at the edge of the lake. He was standing at the point farthest away from the school in tall grass. He had seen the figure out of the corner of his eyes. "It's not polite to spy, you know." He said in a low voice. It was rough and bore no warmth or kindness. He didn't like being spied on, at all.

"Sorry," Jory said immediately, fighting down the urge to run. "I saw your sparks," he continued, as if that would explain why he had been following the guy around. He didn't recognize the guy, and all he could really tell was that the guy was at least a little taller than his five and a half feet. Okay, so he was an inch or so over, but who really cared? He could also tell that the guy had dark hair when he came out of hiding from behind a tree to see.

Jamie was surprised that the guy, whoever he was, stuck around. Many people would mutter an absurd comment and stalk away by now. His sparks...right. Jamie had hardly noticed his wand had sent off sparks. He certainly never intended on drawing attention to himself with them. Jamie could barely recognize any features on the guy in this darkness. He assumed his hair was dark considering it seemed to have faded into the background of the sky. His pale skin reflected the moonlight and his eyes almost stood out against the darkness. What did any of it matter to Jamie anyways?
Jamie stared at the guy with questioning eyes, although one probably wouldn't be able to tell in the darkness. Why was he out here alone? Where had he appeared from? Why was he still there? Jamie assumed he had been hiding something. A project he had been working on secretly until Jamie happened to wander on to the site. It seemed a logical answer in his mind, even if it wasn't the correct one.
"Who are you?" Jamie asked defensively. "What do you want?"

"Jory, I was just out in the forest," Jory answered. He didn't really want anything, he had just been getting away from people. "I was just getting away from people for a little while, don't really like being up at the castle very much." He didn't used to mind being in the castle all the time, but things had changed drastically since then. "I know the forest is technically off-limits, but I don't think anyone really cares."

Jamie couldn't help but laugh a little. "I suppose you came to the wrong place, then." He said. The castle is a part of the school. It is the school. Jamie couldn't understand why anyone would accept entrance into a school they couldn't stand being in. Jamie took a step closer the the moonlight hit the side of his face and left a shadow on the other side of it. He waved his hand dismissing his comment about the forest. Jamie certainly used the forest plenty of times. the off-limits rule was heavily enforced.

Now Jory saw straight eyebrows, well....one straight, dark eyebrow and a strong jawline. At the guy's laugh he couldn't help but smile a little. Maybe this guy was more easy-going than the others, maybe he didn't think it was necessary to pick on a guy that wore rainbows and said like a lot. Or maybe the guy just didn't know who he was, thought Jory couldn't imagine that the guy had never heard someone talking about that funny Gryffindor boy that wore all the jewelry. "I like the castle," Jory amended. "I just don't really like the people inside it most of the time."

"I'm Jamie." He offered with a boyish grin plastered onto his face. Jamie had tucked his wand back away, but not anywhere he couldn't get to it easily. He always kept his wand close...just in case. You never know when you might be walking down the corridors and the opportunity for a duel presents itself. He understood about not liking the people, after all he had made it a point not to become too acquainted with anyone in the six years he's been at Hogwarts. "Yes, well, the people are a nuisance." He said.

Jamie. At his grin, Jory's smile widened a little and relaxed. "Do they bother you or do you just not like people?" he asked. They had only been talking for a couple of minutes, but it was already going better than half his encounters at the school. He couldn't' imagine that Jamie had any serious problems with people at the school, so he must just not be social. Oh, but with a smile like that how could he not be?

"I don't bother with them as long as they don't get in my way." Jamie said. There were, of course, the rare occasions when he had gone looking for a fight. However, it usually only happened when he was completely drunk. "Some people are stupid enough to get in my way or stand in my way." He said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. He had certainly taken care of them. "But you know what they say, you can't fix stupid." That was something he learned pretty quickly after arriving at Hogwarts. Especially in Slytherin with all of the students who thought they were far superior to anyone else because of their families. Ha! They're families are just as foolish as they are now. Jamie despised anyone who felt they were better than him because of their pure bloodlines.

Jory took a couple of steps closer to Jamie, so they were more in a comfortable, normal conversation range. "It sounds like you can take care of yourself, though," he said. He was unable to do so, he had never needed to be good with a wand, and it was coming back to bite him now. "I try to stay away from that kind of stuff."

Jamie tilted his head to the side. He seemed nice enough, so why would he need to avoid anything? "If you don't mind my asking, what are you avoiding?" It seemed this was the first conversation he had with anyone a while...could it even have been years? If ever he conversed with anyone, it was usually mindless chatter about which Quidditch team was bound to come out on top this season or something to that extent. He couldn't imagine running from his own problems. Coming from a large family had taught him to deal with it upfront because even if he hid from it someone was going to catch up with him sooner or later. Big families mean absolutely no privacy.

For once, Jory hadn't been absently playing with his rings, at least until now. He brought his hands together in front of him and his eyes dropped to them as he started turning the spinning part of his thumb ring. "Avoiding guys," he said. "Ever since I came out they've been mean to me." There, it was out, and now he just had to wait for Jamie to throw out an insult and walk away. He hoped that was all that happened, because it would be better than a hex or a curse. It didn't even cross his mind that Jamie may be okay with him being gay.

Came out. Jamie stood a little surprised for a moment. It caught him off guard. He ran a hand through his hair, pushing away the bangs that fell in in front of his eyes. His hands drop to his side and his face became somber. He could imagine how hard it was for Jory.
Jamie has the vivid memory of telling his best friend as a third year that he was so much more than just a friend. He remembers the mixed feelings he got when he was around his friend. How he had wanted him, maybe even loved him. He was so sure that his friend would walk away and never speak to him again. However, in an instant he was pinned up against the wall with the pressure of his friend against him. Before he knew what was really happening, they were up in the dorm room they shared. Jamie was so sure it was the right thing to do, but when he woke up the next morning and headed to the Great Hall for breakfast, his friend was sitting with a bunch of other Slytherins. The same ones they would always make fun of or laugh at because they thought they were so much better than the two of them. And then when Jamie found out that his friend told people...well, nevermind. That wasn't important anymore.
Jamie had never told anyone what really happened. He had never told his family what he was. He never really did come out. Instead, he screwed anything walking with tits trying to ignore how he really felt until he didn't feel anything anymore. Jamie didn't really bother with people after that incident. It was nice to finally have someone to talk to again...sort of.
"That...must be really hard for you." Jamie said in a monotonous tone as if he wasn't really there anymore. His eyes had gone dark as he ran through the painful memory in his head.
