"Uh..." Silver's brow wrinkled as he tried to think of how to describe iPods. "It's like, this little flat thing like the size of a deck of cards, and it has these little skinny things that come off it? And you can like, put them in your ear and hear music. Like, instead of the Wireless, you pick what songs you want to listen to. Does that make sense?" He wasn't sure it did, and he'd actually seen iPods before. "There were a lot of Muggle-borns at my last school, and some of them had iPods." Dare had an iPod, but last he'd heard, it didn't work with all the magic in the air, just like other Muggle toys.

Her brows furrowed as she imagined something the size of a deck of cards holding music, when muggles closest comparison to the wizarding wireless was radios, and even those weren't the same. "How do they get the music onto the small box? Is it like their radios?" Did they broadcast the shows through those, what was the word radio...something. Where it flew through the air and reached the radios, then people could just turn a knob and they would turn on. Willow's tone was almost breathless as she listened to Silver, who seemed to know more about whatever this was, her avid interest in knowledge shining in her eyes.

"Um... I don't know," Silver admitted. He didn't even know how they got music into their radios without magic, so there was no way to tell if it was different or the same. Dare had always just given his iPod to his friends to put the music on, hadn't he? Silver was suddenly glad that he'd gone with electricity. He didn't know how it worked really, but he had a concept of it and he'd hoped to have an edge on most of the people who grew up in wizarding homes. "I've used one before," he said hopefully. Maybe she'd think that was cool and forget he didn't actually know how they worked.

Willow felt her eyes get a bit bigger, a different excitement dancing in her eyes. "Really? What was it like? When did you use it?" She couldn't help the excitement, it was like opening a new book, learning new things. Muggles were definitely one of the most interesting things the world had to offer, after all, it wasn't like going to France and eating snails, she could do that on vacations. This was like uncovering ancient practices of wizards, except it was current uses of Muggles.

"Um, it was cool," he said, mentally squirming. When he'd said that he'd used one, he'd meant that he'd listened to music from one, not that he'd pressed any of the buttons or knew what they did. He scrambled for something impressive to say, some description since she didn't seem to know anything about iPods, but seemed very interested. "At SWIM, that's the school I went to, and it was cool. The top part says what song it is and who the band is, like in writing." That sounded good.

It was fascinating, she thought as she watched Silver, "so when you said you had a hand up in Muggle studies, you meant you should be teaching it?" Her voice was teasing, but she could tell that he knew more than she did. Silver really was fascinating, she thought, he could write like one of the revered playwrights or authors, he knew fancy muggle toys, wasn't discriminating about his brother, obviously knew his way around a bookshelf, and was an.. Willow blushed as her mind stuttered at that next part, her eyes lowering to look up at him under her lashes. He was an amazing kisser.

Silver's eyes widened, the tease going directly over his head with as many thoughts and impulses he was attempting to control at once. "Oh, uh, no, I mean, I'm not that good." They'd had some Muggle stuff at home for Mom, but they'd had mostly wizarding stuff. He started to shuffle his books around, trying to focus on where to start and glad that at least they weren't by the window where reality would intrude. That thought didn't help at all. Convincing himself this wasn't real would end in a mess.

Willow shifted on her chair, and pulled a parchment of paper over towards herself, quill scratching a hatch mark in one corner to keep her mind on what they were talking about. She gave him a half crooked grin, "I bet you still get a better grade than me in Muggle Studies." Her eyes danced, what could she bet him, there was only one thing of value that she could think to offer, knowing that he'd win. "I have a first edition print Famous Wizard card of Bridget Wenlock that says you get a better grade than I do."

Silver blinked, his mind making a connection it hadn't before, now that the answer had been given to him. "You're not like, related, are you?" he asked. It was no wonder she was so far ahead. A family that had produced someone like Bridget Wenlock had to be studious, and that would get passed down, wouldn't it? He'd never heard of any Blackwoods doing anything amazing, unless you counted disowning each other.

"Sure, I suppose I was related to her. Seven hundred and some odd years ago." She shook her head, soft silvery curls dislodging, "that's why we all take Arithmancy." She leaned closer to Silver, and lowered her voice to whisper, "don't ever tell anyone. Swear," she continued anyways as though he had already given his consent. "I'm not so great at Arithmancy and Runes. They're interesting, but..." her eyes turned to her stacks of papers. "I want to find my own thing to be great at. The Wenlocks have been riding on Bridget's coattails for so many years, I want..." she sighed as she looked back at Silver, "to be worthy of the name."

"Oh. Well, yeah, of course," Silver managed, suddenly embarrassed that he'd just announced her relation to the library, whether he fully understood or not. The seven hundred and some odd years didn't matter to him, he wasn't related to anyone famous. He'd always been in his brother's shadow, but he would have thought that having such an illustrious ancestor would be a constant source of inspiration, no matter what field they were in.

Willow sat back down, thinking about how good her father had been in Arithmancy, not as good, but he'd loved sharing it with Willow. She almost chewed on her lip in thought, but instead just tucked more hair behind her ear, the grin returned, just a bit less enthusiastic than before. "I admire her. I do. It's part of why I'm so interested in History. But everyone has their own skills that make them amazing wizards or witches."
She pointed to Silver shaking her finger in a teasing manner, "like you write amazing stories and poems, and could possibly trounce me in Muggle Studies. Possibly. I'm not going to let you win easily." Her grin was back fully now, her eyes dancing as she teased him, glad that he let her and didn't run like some of the other people she'd met since she'd been here.

Silver managed to smile again, part modesty, part false modesty, and part reaction to the smile she'd given him. "Maybe I'll let you win," he suggested. His head drooped a little to let his hair swing forward. "Since I'm like, a gentleman." He braced himself to get slapped from across the table for even suggesting it.

The idea was appealing Willow decided as she leaned across the table again. "So, if I win, what's my prize?" She'd offered him a card, didn't honestly think he had something to offer her, or would offer her, but she'd play along if he was going to play. Willow set her quill aside, and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear, trying not to chuckle at what she was teasing him with, and she really wanted to see him smile.

Silver looked up at the unexpected reaction, surprised to see Willow leaning toward him. He kept his eyes firmly on hers, despite any temptation she might have been offering, and tried to think. Had she really been serious about that chocolate frog card? "Um..." He didn't have anything he thought she'd want. "I'll write you a poem?" he tried. Maybe he was cheating, maybe he already had one, but she didn't know that.
