Katia could well understand the inability for him to form words to that argument, as most men refused on merit to answer it. The gamut of responses she had received had ranged from nonchalance, refusal to answer, and the straight and blatant response being her favorite, because men were simply better. It rather seemed a common response, as though men could not bear to let go of their hold and let a woman into the elite society of heirs. Katia however knew her worth as a person, and as the rightful heir to her father's estate and wealth, even if society would demean her for it, the only concession she would make would be to save face for her father, what people thought of her, well she could care less.

Katia had given no response whatsoever, but Eros refrained either from sighing or glancing heavenward for patience. His typical look of bored aristocracy remained as he set himself to ending this visit without offense. "Your usual order of chocolate for the hospital is ready," he said, bringing it all back to business. "If you like, I could give it to you now, or have it sent on if you prefer."

Katia's brow raised, "I was hoping to continue a civilized conversation, only hoping that you might supply a more appropriate topic. If you would like to be relieved of my presence though, I could take the order off of your hands." Though she truly was hoping that she would never have to deal with another student again, after the mishaps that had been occurring of late.

Inwardly, Eros tensed, and it was quite close that he caught himself before his jaw clenched. The woman had no sense of propriety! If she had wished to stay, she had only to suggest a topic, not to gauchely draw attention to his attempt to wrap things up. He had taken her silence as a desire to stop conversing, as she had given him no clue otherwise.
It took him some few seconds to compose himself before he could convince his lips to curve into a polite smile. "Your presence is always most welcome," he said, everything about his tone and his personal comportment easy grace and gallantry, though he was lying through his teeth. "I do, however, have an early appointment this evening which I should be preparing for." He didn't bother expressing any regrets, though it would have been polite to do so. He was certain that she would only call him a liar if he did.

Katia nodded, inwardly wincing at the short sentence, and the excuse to run away. "Perhaps another time, I feel as though I have ungraciously stepped on your toes. Forgive me." She knew that casual brush off, and she really did enjoy the company Eros presented, enough to do as she should and try to toe the line of propriety. As much as it hurt her pride for this next line, maintaining a friendship and line of civility was more important. "If there is something I can do to make up for my fau paux please let me know.

Eros wouldn't be so gauche—a word he used often around Katia, it seemed—as to demand repayment for errors he didn't intend to acknowledge. He brushed aside her apologies with some polite words and retrieved her order instead, a decorative bag filled with shrunken boxes which contained the types and amounts of chocolates that were her regular order. The school and her own accounts had been billed already, so no further arrangements were necessary. Eros was quite grateful for that.
