That wasn't much of a response, but it was likely the best that Markise was going to get. Maybe he'd send Mano an owl himself to be sure Michael didn't chicken out or decide he could handle everything himself. "You should stay with someone for a while," Markise decided. "You don't need to be alone right now." Whatever had happened, if Michael was anything like Dare, he'd just retreat further and further.

Michael shrugged, though the idea sounded appealing. Of course, it was more for the fact he wouldn't have to stay at home than anything else. "But I have to take care of the animals," he argued softly. Well, that was easy to fix, he could just go to the shop twice a day to take care of the pets. But he couldn't even begin to think that that would be enough for Elouai, who was so used to constant care. She was already being cared for less than normal.

"I'll send an owl to Dru," Markise offered. She'd been the one who watched the animals during their honeymoon, hadn't she? Markise didn't want to think too much on the fact that he remembered that, considering how bad-off he'd been at the time, but he did remember. "If you can't bring your dog, I could find a place for her, too..." He'd watched her before, but he didn't know if he could now. He'd have to stay in Diagon Alley, and it would be so close to London and the clubs. Would he be able to talk Ariel into just a couple nights here? He couldn't imagine Dare would be that hard to find once people started looking for him.

Michael finally pulled his head up to look at Markise, then he nodded. "Thank you," he said. He didn't know what he had wanted to get from Markise, but this was more than he could have imagined. "I stayed with Eros before....the ceremony." Suddenly staying with Eros didn't seem as appealing. Staying with Mano didn't sound much better.

Markise's brows drew together again, and for a long moment, he looked down at his hand as it rested against Michael. Then he let out a nearly-inaudible sigh. "If you can't find anywhere else... you can stay here," he said. That would be so awkward, especially if Ariel wanted to stay, but what else could he do? Tell Michael he was staying with Eros and try to ignore that pained look he'd just gotten? "There's a couch," he finished lamely.

Michael shook his head. However bad the memories could be with Eros, it would be better than staying with Markise, who he and Dare had just started being civil with, not to mention Ariel would be there. "I'll talk to Eros," he said. Maybe he would sleep on the couch there, if he decided he could sleep at all. Anything was better than staying at home.

Markise nodded, relieved to hear it, though he tried not to let it show. As much as he liked Michael sometimes, and as decently as they'd gotten along when he'd stayed with them, if Michael could handle staying with someone else, they'd probably all be more comfortable. "Do you want me to watch Elouai?" he asked. He wanted so badly to be able to help more, but he didn't know what else he could do while Michael was still here.

"Please?" Michael asked, nodding. It would be so much easier if he didn't have to worry about Elouai. He hadn't expected it to be so hard to take her for walks, but what had once been hour long strolls had quickly turned into fifteen minute long trecks. He didn't know how he could thank Markise for putting up with him like this.

Markise nodded again. "I'll take care of her," he promised. It was so inappropriate for him to be thinking about Ariel right now, but he couldn't help the detour his mind had made. He couldn't take the dog to school, so he'd have to stay in Diagon Alley, and Ariel would want to stay with him, wouldn't he? He pushed the thought away for now. He needed to concentrate first on getting Michael taken care of, and second on finding Dare. There damn well better be a good explanation, he thought.
"You're going to talk to Eros now, right?" Markise asked at last. Michael needed to go before he forgot and curled up somewhere to cry again.

Michael sighed, licked his lips, then finally nodded. "Yes, I am," he said. He wasn't looking forward to it, but it surely couldn't be any worse than talking to Markise about it. A few minutes later he had forced himself to stand up and stretch slightly before wiping his eyes and putting his hands in his pockets again. He knew he should probably be worried about Dare since Markise had said Dare wasn't at school, but he couldn't bring himself to be just now.

Markise pushed to his feet. "I'll owl you some time," he said. "Or you can come back whenever." Obviously, since he'd have DareandMichael's dog. He still couldn't believe Dare had just left like that. And yet, on that thought he was reminded of how very quickly he'd left California. He wasn't mean before he left, Markise reminded himself.

Michael nodded again, "I'll come by tomorrow." He couldn't just abandon Elouai, no matter the memories that were attached to her. After telling Markise how to get into the flat and where Elouai's things were, Michael left to apparate to Hogsmeade and find Eros.
