Dare's lips curved into a genuinely happy smile. "Black German Shepherd," he said proudly. "Her name is Elouai. She's almost a year old now." He hadn't even realized it. He'd have to ask Michael, dig up Elouai's papers and see when she'd been born. "She's really smart, really protective." To the point that she'd peed on Mano's shoes. Twice. Of course, at the time, Mano had deserved it. Maybe he still did. The dead plants in front of the coffee shop certainly thought so.

Madison smiled, "I've never owned a dog or a pet in my life, I've always wanted one, but my parent's had the rule that until I was old enough to assume complete responsibility I couldn't have one." She shrugged, "I guess at fifteen I'm still not quite old enough to assume that kind of responsibility yet."

Dare shrugged lightly. "Elouai's my first," he said. "Dad wasn't into animals, and we kept too busy to really spend time with one, even when we were home. I might've begged for an owl or something once, but I'm over that." Ever since that night that he and Michael had totally been interrupted. Nothing about that night had gone right for any of them, and that owl had kicked it all off.

Madison cringed, "call it the muggle in me, but I can't stand owls. All they do is hoot, poop, and well I'm not sure they do much else. Call me crazy, but I just don't understand why they can't have a nicer bird delivering messages, heck even a New York pigeon would be preferable to me."

"A pigeon couldn't carry as much," Dare said, as though he knew all about why owls were the birds that got along so well with wizards. In general. "Besides, owls live everywhere, no one's going to notice one. Unless they're tapping on your window in the middle of the night," he added, grumbling a bit.

"Or carrying messages in their claws." She'd never understood, for such a common bird to be seen everywhere, carrying messages when owl usually weren't used for that, would draw attention. Or rather should draw attention, however on the other hand pigeons would be so much more useful, and they would not be noticed. Pigeons had been used as messengers for thousands of years.

Dare shook his head, unable to really understand what Madison's issue with owls was. He was annoyed by them, but he'd grown up mostly in the wizarding world and owls made sense, whether he liked them or not. He decided not to answer, and in looking for a change of subject, casually flipped up the metal face cover on his watch. "Sh~, I've gotta get to class," he said, then looked up almost apologetically at Madison. "I'll see you around."

Madison nodded, she didn't have an after lunch class, she'd opted out of some of the more boring classes since it was her fifth year in. At least there was some freedom there. "No problem," Madison said with a grin, "it's nice to have made a new friend this early in." She lifted a brow "that is if I've made a friend here," she was pretty sure she had, but didn't want to make any assumptions.

Dare's lips curved into a somewhat crooked smile. "Sure," he said, mossy green eyes gleaming as they peeked out from behind his fringe. He unfolded long limbs and pushed to his feet, then snatched up his bag. One large hand lifted in parting, then he turned to begin the walk across the lawns. He'd have to mention her to Michael.
