Chase's eyes narrowed and sparked dangerously. No, he didn't have proof. All he had was gossip and scandal hovering around him begging for one misstep to ruin all his hard work. "We will discuss how to fix this," he said, his voice lowered now, if not truly calmed. "I look like a fool, and as I will not renege on a contract, it is your decision as to what quality of life I will provide you with in the future." She could break the contract, but if she chose not to, he could choose not to indulge her whims in the future. Or he could be generous.

Carolynn's nostrils flared and her eyes flashed at the threat. "What would you have me do?" she demanded. "Run off to my father's house again? Shall I make a public statement?" What did he want her to do? She could hold her ground against him if she had to, as of his last statement, she was through with being sweet for the moment.

"You should be living with your father!" Chase said. "You have no female companion here to make this even minutely acceptable. Find somewhere else to live, and find proper companionship. I will not spend the rest of my life teaching you how to behave in Society, as you should already know!" He would write to his father again, and tell the man how Miss Singh had claimed ignorance of rudimentary guidelines. Perhaps if he stressed that she would make a mockery of the family name and not just of him, his father would pay attention.

Yes, yes she knew, it just so happened that she saw nothing wrong with living with Mano when they weren't doing anything. She should write to her father and complain about how she was being treated by Chase. It was an insult. "Find me somewhere to go, and I'll go," she challenged. She wouldn't do it out of her father's pocket. He had no problems with any of this.

"I'll have a place tomorrow," Chase returned. It would cost quite a few Galleons to do it so quickly, but if his father wanted him to marry Carolynn Singh so badly, he'd pay for it. "I'll send a house-elf to begin your packing when it's ready." And for his peace of mind, he'd leave the elf with her. She couldn't complain that she wasn't being taken care of, and he would know who came and went, and what for. "Is this acceptable to you, Miss Singh?"

Carolynn glared at Chase and her jaw tightened. "Whatever you wish, dear," she said finally. She might have tried to pull out her usual sweet tone and expression, but she did not want to be uprooted and thrown somewhere where she would be alone all the time other than some measly little house-elf.

Chase's eyes narrowed. His father had saddled him with a shrew. He was definitely going to find a way to get the man back for his generosity. "I have business to settle then," Chase said. He'd firecall his father and demand cooperation at the soonest opportunity. "Good afternoon," he finished, then left before either of them could do any more damage.

Carolynn glared at the door and then stormed up to her room. How dare he talk to her like that? How dare he treat her like that? He should be seeing to her every whim, not forcing her to live alone with some house-elf. She fully intended on writing her father.
