Markise somehow made it to the edge of the bed before getting sick over the side of it. He groaned softly, then stilled, pulling what air he could into lungs that wanted to give up. He couldn't think past the edge of the bed where he lay, wishing the ceiling would fall in and crush his head rather than let this continue.

Ariel didn't even give his customary heavy sigh or wrinkled nose, instead he merely pulled out his wand and cleaned up from his spot. He wanted to go help Markise, but he once again felt rooted to the floor, well, to the large pillow he had slept on. "How's your head?" he asked instead of getting up. The bandage was still there, but that didn't mean anything.

Markise winced slightly at the sound of Ariel's voice and squeezed his eyes even tighter shut, pushing a momentary rush of tears free. His head was throbbing too hard to think. His lips parted slightly to attempt an answer, but his tongue felt thick and heavy, and his throat was too dry. He ended in making another soft groan of abject misery that summed everything up.

Ariel shifted, then finally stood to head over to his dresser and dig through one of the little drawers at the top. He had always kept necessities there, and he could only assume that the Room would give him everything he was used to seeing there. He was proven right in his assumption when he pulled out a little bottle of pain potion. "Here, this will help," he said, turning to Markise and holding out the bottle. "Do you want...coffee or something?" Sick'a you takin' care of me... He couldn't just let Markise suffer, though!

Markise pried open his eyes just enough to see what Ariel was offering. He nearly cried again with relief and immediately made his had begin to stretch out enough to take hold of the little bottle. His tongue felt glued to the roof of his mouth, but he made decent approximations of the words water, please, and thank you.
He couldn't remember the harsh things he'd told Ariel several hours ago, and even had they still existed in his memory, he would have been unable to retrieve them. He was, as he often if not usually was when Ariel helped him, infinitely grateful. He eyed the bottle in his hand for a moment, silently debating before he closed his eyes and attempted to begin moving, pushing himself into a semi-upright position against one elbow. The metal spike being driven through the back of his skull only encouraged him all the more. He wanted this potion!

Ariel was infinitely grateful they were in the Room of Requirement, where getting water meant hoping for it and searching for where the room put it. He poured a glass and then offered it to Markise, though he stood a little away from him rather than sitting on the edge of the bed like he might have some other time.

Markise took the potion first, letting out a small sigh of relief as it eased pain it couldn't entirely take away. But it was bearable now, and he was able to sit to take the glass Ariel offered. His head was bowed, his eyes closed as he sipped at the water, his parched throat demanding more. He wasn't sure he could remember a morning where even coffee didn't sound good. "Thank you," he murmured again.

Ariel watched Markise for a few long, tense moments before he nodded and muttered a low yeah. Maybe he realized that Markise might not remember the previous night, but right now he was just more confused. Markise had hated him and now he was saying thank you. He shoved his hands in his pockets and shifted back a few steps.

Markise didn't think a thing of the silence as he sipped his water, then waited a moment to be sure it stayed down. He was grateful for the quiet, for the low lighting in the room and the lack of any real motion around him. Partway through the glass he had to stop, his stomach twisting, but thankfully not refusing everything he'd just put into it. It took him a while to open his eyes again, just enough to look up at Ariel from behind thoroughly mussed hair. He didn't know how he'd gotten here or why Ariel was keeping away from him, and he was afraid to ask, so he didn't.

Ariel shifted uncomfortably. knowing he should probably check the bandage on Markise's head. Even knowing that, his mind kept thinking of the things Markise had said. His jaw clenched before he silently cursed himself and stepped forward to tentatively reach to push Markise's hair away from the bandage so he could check it. He didn't speak, less sure of what would come out than if he should be there helping Markise.

Markise winced, even that light touch enough to irritate his head. He closed his eyes again and stilled, finally trying to think and realizing through his headache that the side of his head hurt, too. He told himself he didn't want to know, but it wasn't enough to stop him from asking, "What happened?" He didn't mean the whole night. Part of him worried about what could have happened, but had he gotten hurt?

Ariel's hands paused in trying to take the bandage away. A lot had happened, and apparently Markise didn't remember any of it. "You fell," he answered finally, simply, then continued removing the bandage and checking the cut. It looked fine, so he didn't take too much time on it before he pulled away again. He wasn't at all sure what he should tell Markise about everything, so for now he left the explanation at you fell.

"Oh," Markise said softly. He didn't ask for more than that, grateful to hear that he hadn't picked a fight with anyone. "Thank you," Markise said again. "Guess you don't have to owe me no more," he added hopefully. Ariel had been upset about thinking he owed him, so he'd take whatever opportunity he could to say that no, Ariel didn't owe him.

Ariel shook his head and shrugged. He didn't think that Markise had been lying the night before, so how could he be like this now? He really hated this. "Fixing your head doesn't make up for all the bills," he said, then turned to head to his dresser. There wasn't really a reason he went there, but at least fiddling with the random little trinkets on the top gave him something to focus on.

Markise grimaced slightly. Somehow, he'd hoped that Ariel would forget about the hospital bills and he could play the anonymous benefactor. He opted not to argue, but lifted his glass to sip at the water again. He didn't know how much he'd be able to drink before it made him sick, but his throat was so dry that the Black Lake probably wouldn't have been enough. He couldn't think of anything to say, so he returned to his silence.
