Naturally Awkward (Anna/Silver)

"It's a date then." Anna managed to get the words out, surprised at the turn of events. When she woke up this morning, she wouldn't have guessed at all that she would end up spending the day shopping with Silver and getting invited to Michael and Dare's wedding as his date. As much as Anna wanted to dwell on it, her mind switched over into planning gear. She didn't have a clue what she was going to wear, or what to bring, or, "Um Silver, when is it?"

"Oh," Silver said, his attention thankfully diverted by that question. He'd been pretty exclusively around people who knew for so long that he felt a moment of surprise before realizing it was ridiculous to think that she'd have known. "Tuesday," he told her. "Tuesday night at dusk, at the edge of the forest." He paused, then dug into his pocket after the invitation he'd been carrying around for reference. It had been folded in quarters, and the fold lines were worn thin, but it was still easy to read. "I can get you a better one, but this one has everything on it," he said, offering the paper to Anna.

Anna took the invitation from him, opening it up and reading it for the first time. "This one will do, thanks." She re-read it, looking for specifics. "Is it formal or causal?" Her gaze flicked back up to Silver for an answer. She didn't want to embarrass him by dressing up or down too much. A vision came to her head of all the guests wearing dress robes, and her showing up in a summer dress.

"They're trying to keep it traditional," Silver said, then shook his head slightly. "It's funny really, I never would have thought Dare would want that, but I guess..." He guessed getting 'married' to a guy was enough deviation for his brother. "Anyway, there'll be dress robes, so..." He shrugged lightly. He didn't know how formal formal was, since people wore dress robes to dances, but then, he wasn't an expert on clothes.

"Thanks." Anna nodded in understanding, getting a general idea of what types of clothes she was expected to wear. She looked back at the invitation and her mind started wandering, wondering things that had nothing to do with being Silver's date or what to wear. She looked back at the names on the invitation, "So which one....nevermind." It was a silly question, and for some reason felt so inappropriate to ask. She bit down on her lower lip to keep herself from continuing anyways.

Silver had been looking at Anna when she caught herself, and he saw her eyes drop. "Which one, what?" he asked. What had she thought that would have her chewing her lip like that? He jerked his gaze back up. Just because she'd agreed to go to the reception with him didn't mean anything. She probably felt sorry for him. For the moment, he didn't have any idea what she'd been about to ask.

Anna held in a laugh when her thoughts kept getting worse as they went on. She originally was wondering which one was changing their name, but her thoughts got deeper until she was thinking about one of them having to wear a dress. She knew it was completely silly, and couldn't imagine either one wearing one, even thinking it seemed so wrong. She shook her head, trying to clear the image before she admitted her original question which seemed mild now. "I was wondering which one was changing his name, or if they were both keeping their last names."

Silver had no idea what else Anna was thinking, and wondered what was so amusing about changing names. Her eyes were laughing, and he had to drag his thoughts away from that. Names, he reminded himself. "They're not, they're hyphenating," Silver said. It was so weird to think of. "Blackwood-Hardt." He shrugged.

"Oh, okay. That's reasonable, although not nearly as amusing." Anna remembered that Silver's brother was one of the guys she was referring to, and sobered up. She didn't want to be uninvited by him because he thought she wasn't okay with the whole gay partnership idea. "Sorry, I just got stuck on stereotypes and labeling is all."

Silver's lips quirked slightly as he looked at Anna. "That's fine," he said. "Dare said he'd brought up Blackhardt, and I couldn't tell you if he was totally kidding or not." He gave her a wry smile before looking down at the wireless again, wondering how he hadn't thought of it himself and maybe even glad he'd found his way into the book store.

Anna couldn't help letting out a chuckle at that bit of information. She was glad to see that Silver had some sense of humor about the whole situation. It took her a moment to follow the direction of his eyes and remember that they were in the store to buy the gift. She glanced to the man waiting behind the counter and then back at Silver. "I'll wait if you want to go pay for that."

Silver nodded, then went to pay. He hadn't been any form of nervous about the ceremony, since everything had been going so smoothly on his part, but now he wondered how the reception would go. He hoped it wouldn't make things awkward bringing Anna.
