Michael looked over at Dare and then down at the offered hand. He took the invitation without much thought. Only after the contact did he look up at Quinn. "Don't worry about it, really," he said softly. He remembered the first time they had walked through the castle holding hands. That had been absolutely horrific, and now it was normal.

"Yeah, don't worry about it," Dare echoed. His hand tightened around Michael's, then he looked back at Quinn. "It's pretty amazing hearing someone talk like that." Especially considering everything else they'd heard. Even the people who supported them wouldn't be so vehement on their behalf. The closest he could think of would be Brindle, who he'd caught in doorways more often than seemed reasonable when he and Michael thought they were alone.

Quinn nodded, but didn't know how to respond to that, her talking had gotten her in more trouble at home then it had ever gotten her support. She shuddered a bit as she thought about her family, more than ever glad she'd managed to get here, but still wishing Kylie was with her. "It's who I've always been, more or less. I'm not very good keeping my opinions to myself, I never have been. And my opinions do tend to be more morally high, and value grey. People prefer black and white, they don't have to think about the consequences of their actions that way, it makes them feel better." But I've spent to long hiding, letting someone tell me what to think and how to act, I can't worry about black and white, the world is grey. Quinn lifted her shoulder, "kudos to you two, for knowing who you are, and refusing the black and whites of the world. We need more people willing to challenge the foundations. Even if they don't want to listen, when enough people are talking about it, it becomes harder to ignore."

Michael wasn't sure what to say. It was such a strange turnaround having someone instantly accept them. Someone that wasn't at one of the clubs. He couldn't understand how it could happen like this when even their friends had been wary about the relationship. "Thank you," was all he could think of to say, and even then it was very soft.

Dare nodded in agreement with Michael's softly-spoken sentiment. He was silent a moment, trying to absorb the idea of someone not only accepting, but fighting for things and people who were different. He knew it was impulsive, but he and Michael had talked so often about how few people they had in their little circle. "We're having a civil partnership ceremony here next week," he said, setting the information out. He looked aside at Michael, unsure. They didn't really know her, but the invitations had been designed to allow anyone who wanted to support them to come. Guests Welcome.

Quinn widened her eyes in amazement as she realized juts what they had been planning, and how she really had interrupted something important. "Congratulations," there was a truly happy smile on her face for them, it was rare she believed to find someone who so understood you, they'd be willing to sacrifice anything for you. Her parents had had that, before her father had died, and in a way she'd shared something similar with her sister. It was her hope to find a man who would love her, the way that her mother sometimes spoke of her father, but considering how abrasive she was to most people she'd met in her life, she wasn't optimistic. She ran a hand through her hair self consciously, "and now I really am sorry that I barged in. You were planning your ceremony...and here I was talking about things that aren't as important."

Michael had glanced over at Dare, but his eyes were pulled back at that congratulations that was so incredibly sincere. "Really, no worries, it's really nit-picky stuff now." Someone on the outside would probably wonder why they were even worried about things like which exact tree they were in front of. He glanced over at Dare again. "And...guests are welcome," he added, though he had no idea if she would want to come.

Dare's lips curved, and his heart swelled again with excitement for the day. His free hand reached up to brush ineffectually at his fringe, which fell back into place, though his glittering eyes were still visible through it. He pulled his gaze from Michael's before he could be tempted to kiss him and looked at Quinn instead. "We have everything planned," he assured her. "We're just double-checking." For about the hundredth time, but both of them wanted so desperately for this to be perfect.

Quinn gave half a grin, but inside she was quickly becoming jealous, of the way the two of them looked at each other. "I'd be honored to attend the ceremony." It was hard to forget Kylie when secrets and love flowed so obviously. "But for now, maybe it would be better if I let you finish nitpicking, and find myself those quiet places." She wanted to talk to Kylie, and while she understood it, very few other people did. "It was very nice meeting you, Dare, Michael."

Michael nodded and squeezed Dare's hand lightly. "There are plenty of places in the forest for you to find," he said, then smiled. And when she left they could get back to their double-checking and head back home. Or not, there were places they could go other than home where they wouldn't have to worry about Brindle.

Dare watched Quinn go, and the moment she'd disappeared past the treeline, he turned his full attention to Michael. "I've been wanting to do this since she showed up," he said softly, then brought his free hand up to smooth against the line of Michael's jaw before bringing their lips together. So maybe he hadn't wanted a kiss from the first second he'd heard her, but with all the talk about bigotry, it had been close enough.
