"If you were so convinced we wouldn't take care of him, you shouldn't have sent an owl," Michael said back, then walked out the door. He paused outside and closed his eyes for a few moments. He didn't want to go back to Dare angry. Would he even be like this if the owl had come just a little bit later? He ran his hands through his hair and rubbed his eyes.

"Dare was my only hope before I called my Mum. I thought he would help us find a way to get back, not take Markise in and toss me to the curb!" Anna vented to the open door, wondering if things might have turned out better if she'd just called home. Her mom would be furious, and she'd be grounded forever, but Markise would be safe and she wouldn't be standing here having this argument with her ex. She turned her back to the door, heading for the counter where the cash register and possibly some floo powder was.

Michael slammed the door shut and then turned on the spot, forcing his wracked brain to focus on the little alleyway outside of his shop. He wasn't going to stand there and argue any more, he needed to get back to Dare and calm himself down.

Anna jumped at the sound of the door slamming. After hearing the sound of him disapparating, she turned back to ward the bookstore again before beginning the hunt for some floo powder. Since she did all her business by owl in order to keep accurate records, she never bothered with the stuff. She vaguely remembered putting the small pot of it somewhere out of the way when she'd purchased the store.
After a small search, she'd found the stuff in the upstairs quarters, next to the fireplace in the living room full of storage. She took more than enough money to cover a room and wrote herself an IOU slip before finding out her floo was in working order as she landed in the Leaky Cauldron. She didn't waste time getting her room or settling between the covers. She was still pissed, and worried, and frustrated, and so many other emotions that she couldn't sort them all out. Anna didn't have a clue if she stared at the ceiling for hours or mere seconds before exhaustion took over and she fell into a fitful sleep.
