Markise looked over at Ariel, one brow arched slightly. Then he turned back to the drawings he had laid out. "Thank you," he said. His voice was genuine, and he gave a light sigh as he looked back down at the drawings he had. He didn't have anything similar to what was on the floor, nor did he want to, but he had one that wasn't too out-there. He turned back to his mannequin and pinned the paper to it, then backed up to look, one hand moving to rest across his abdomen as the other twirled at a lock of hair. It wasn't a suit, not exactly, but it would complement the dress without getting overpowered by it. And it was shades of gray. No one could argue grays.

Ariel looked at the paper and nodded, though his opinion couldn't count for much when it came to fashion. He didn't know anything about it, other than some things looked good and others looked absolutely horrible. It at least looked like something he could see someone wearing, if not himself. "Do you need anything else?" he asked, a little too eager to be away from the close space with Markise.

Markise's lips pressed tighter for just a moment before he gave Ariel the no he wanted. He almost said I need the company! but something told him Ariel wasn't that into it. He'd had some company though, and it had helped. He glanced at the clock hanging over the cloth table. At least there wasn't much time left. If he'd been alone, he might just have called it quits and gone back to school, since he didn't have time to really get started. But he was determined to keep Ariel busy until they only had time to get back to school. He'd find something else to do. Maybe he'd see if he had the right fabrics.

Ariel nodded then went to grab the book for downstairs before leaving the room. He was able to hold the sigh of relief that threatened until the door closed behind him, then he leaned against it, put his head back, and closed his eyes. Could he really stand doing this? No. He should leave now and refuse to come back. Yes. He could stand it, because even if it was torture it meant that he was with Markise. It took him a minute or two before he finally pushed away from the door to go downstairs and get to work.

When Markise heard the door shut, his hands rose to run through his hair, and he let out a sigh. What was he doing? He'd hired Ariel as an employee, and he was hoping they'd dance together? Hoping they could flirt and touch and have fun like they could at the club? Yes. He shouldn't, though. He told himself firmly that here, he was the boss and Ariel was the employee. He laughed at the idea. He was the boss. He shook his head, then went to the fabric table to go through the rolls and folded lengths.

When Ariel was finally settled in to counting everything, he knew it wouldn't take long. Yes, there was a lot to look through, but it was all organized, and so all he had to do was count and write it down. He told himself that tomorrow he could fill out the areas that were low on supplies and give the system a test run. Was he really already planning on coming back another day?

The clock sounded a chime half an hour before curfew. It was pushing it so close, and sometimes when he did this he ended up skirting around Filch and Mrs. Norris anyway. Markise brought over the fabrics he'd picked out and set them on the table with the drawings, then turned off his Wizards' Wireless and headed downstairs to get Ariel.

Ariel was three quarters of the way through everything, and he was a person that hated to leave anything unfinished when it was that close to being done. It felt like it was almost time to go, so he was hurrying through. His numbers were still accurate, if a little more haphazard than the ones at the beginning were, the job was getting done tonight.

"It's time to go," Markise said, coming back into the shop. "You can finish that another time." Tomorrow, maybe? "Curfew's in half an hour. I'll get the receipts before I open tomorrow." On principle, he didn't keep a clock in the shop. If people lost track of time while they were shopping, all the better.

Ariel glanced up at Markise, "Give me ten minutes." Then he set to work again, glancing down the wall. He didn't have much left to go, he knew he could finish in time to get back to the school, especially if he took the Knight Bus. That reminded him, he really needed to go get his license so he could just apparate, that was free. He scribbled a couple of numbers down and scooted over to the next arm's length of clothing.

"If you want anything to do next time, leave it," Markise said. "In ten minutes we'll only have twenty to get through Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, the grounds, and the castle. Come on." Markise walked over to Ariel's side and stopped between him and what was left, crossing his arms over his chest. He looked at Ariel expectantly.

"But if I stop now, then I'll be behind tomorrow," Ariel said, eyes flickering up at Markise before focusing on the job in front of him. If he stopped, it would put him behind, he would feel like he was missing something until everything had been checked and proven to be in order again. He finished what was in front of him and then nudged Markise's shins to try to get him to move down.

Markise didn't budge. One hand slipped free, and he held it out for the book. "You won't be behind, I'll be here for ten minutes before I even open. Come on, I'm not joking, it's the middle of the week and we're making curfew." The softness had left Markise's voice for annoyance. "Give it here."

Ariel scowled up at Markise, "You can go, it doesn't take me that long to get up there." Who said they had to go up together, anyway? "I could be three feet over by now," he pointed out. In the time it took for them to talk he could at least have finished a little more. He wouldn't have finished yet, but he'd be closer to it than he was now.

"We're going together," Markise said. "The shop is closed and I'm not paying you anymore. You're off the clock, come on." Markise brought out his wand again and waved it to turn off the lights, making any further writing impossible. Then he grabbed the book to take it away. "You can come back after school if you want to finish so badly."
