Markise shifted slightly beneath Ariel, nestling comfortably in. His hands slowed, finally relaxing in Ariel's hair and down at his hip as he fell asleep, only a minute or two after that soft question. He felt so much safer than he did in the Hufflepuff dorm, so much more wanted than at Mano's, and his dreams, for once in months, were peaceful.

Ariel's dreams tried their best to sort out his thoughts, the absolute confusion he felt because of Markise and everything that was happening in his life. They flitted between peace and calm and more rough dreams where he had hurt Markise again, which he knew, without a doubt, was going to happen.
When he woke the next morning, it was with a start, jerking slightly. His eyes darted around the room quickly before he realized that he was in bed with Markise. Only then did he relax. But the relaxation didn't last long, soon he was feeling the effects of going so long without a smoke. He wasn't going to leave Markise there to wake up by himself, especially not after what they had done the night before. So he stayed in bed, thinking of anything but the burning need to get outside for a few minutes.

Markise stretched languidly when he finally began to surface, a small sound of satisfied pleasure humming in his throat. He felt so good, more relaxed, more sane than he'd felt since... He couldn't quite remember, but he wanted to wallow in it, so he made no move to open his eyes, but brought his hands up to ruffle his hair against the pillow. His mind worked slowly, moving backwards through bits of dreams, backwards to--
Markise's eyes opened, though they only just managed to get past half-mast. He stared at a ceiling that was definitely not in the boys' dorm for all of ten seconds before turning his head. Muscles that had tensed in that first moment eased again. He hadn't dreamed it. His eyes softened, and his lips curved slightly as he reached up, brushing his fingers lightly against Ariel's jaw. "Morning," he said groggily.

"Morning," Ariel said, his eyes momentarily focusing on Markise's face before flickering away again, toward the dresser where his pants lay with his supplies. He didn't want to push Markise away, not when he could tell that Markise was still feeling the effects of the night before. "I need a smoke," he confessed, pulling his eyes from his folded pants to Markise's eyes again in a silent plea for him to understand.

Markise wrinkled his nose in displeasure. He definitely wouldn't want to kiss Ariel if he came back smelling and tasting like cigarettes. He didn't pull back his hand, and after a moment, his distaste smoothed away into something he couldn't quite identify. "I'll see you again, right?" he asked. He intended to find Ariel at the club he'd mentioned, but wasn't at all sure if Ariel would really go to his shop. He wasn't at all sure if this was a one-time thing, and he wouldn't try to guess.

Ariel nodded, though his eyes had dropped at Markise's reaction to what he had said. "Yeah, I'm sorry...I just...I mean, I was going outside when I found you yesterday," he said. He had to get Markise to understand that it was no longer a choice. He knew he could be so much worse, and he really wasn't ready to give it up just yet, but everything felt worse when he had to confess it to Markise.

"It's fine," Markise said, whether it was or not. Ariel had told him how much he smoked, and that was an addiction, not a casual habit. It hurt to think of it, but there was nothing he could do about that now. There were more important things to fight. "Kiss me and I'll let you go," he said softly. He wanted the end to sum up what had happened. He didn't want any regrets.

Ariel's eyes flickered to his folded jeans again and he nodded. He was still nodding when he pulled his eyes away and pressed his lips to Markise's, though the motion died soon after their lips touched. The kiss was enough to make him momentarily forget even his craving, and he shifted to put his arm around Markise and pull him closer.

From the look in Ariel's eyes, Markise hadn't been expecting much of a kiss. He was happy to be proved wrong. His lips parted as he melted against Ariel, his hand sweeping back into thick hair. His leg moved unconsciously against Ariel's this time, loving the smooth feel of his skin. He wasn't initiating anything this time, just putting everything he could into the kiss and exulting in the feel of Ariel around him again.

Ariel sighed softly into the kiss and moved his hand down over Markise's skin. He let it go on until the craving started pushing its way through the pleasure, and he reluctantly pulled away. "I'm sorry," he said softly. "I have to go." His hand came back up and stroked up Markise's spine one last time before settling on his waist.

Markise sighed, the kiss still radiating through him as he nodded. His fingers brushed once more through Ariel's hair, then he pushed to sit, giving a low groan for the effort. He knew he didn't have to leave, but he'd slept all he wanted and there was no reason to stay in this room without Ariel. Markise stood, his eyes scanning the floor a moment before he retrieved the missing piece of his outfit. He threw one last glance over his shoulder at Ariel, then started dressing.

Ariel watched Markise for as long as his body would let him before he stood and began dressing. He settled his jeans on his hips and then strung his belt through the loops before digging in his pockets, as if the two little boxes would have disappeared over night. Then he pulled on his shirt and moved to the bed to pull on socks and shoes, all the while moving quicker with each item.

Markise could hear Ariel shuffling around behind him, but refused to move any faster. He didn't want to think about Ariel leaving, or why he was hurrying. He didn't want to think about anything but how amazing last night had been. Ariel had rescued him again, and for a while, they'd had a perfect truce. He'd felt wanted, and maybe even cared for. That would hold him over.

Ariel shoved his right foot into his shoe and then arranged the bottoms of his pants the way he liked before standing and heading toward the door. He stopped within a few steps, uncertain, and turned halfway to look at Markise. He ran a hand through his hair. What was he supposed to say after everything that had happened? His other hand fumbled in his pocket, fingering the smaller of the two boxes.

Markise stood at the dresser a few moments after he heard the stop of Ariel's feet. He ran his fingers through his hair, working out a few snags, then fluffed it lightly as he looked back over his shoulder. To find Ariel looking at him. Markise blinked, and his eyes stuck, then dropped, taking in one last, flickering look and seeing everything beneath the cloth. His eyes rose and stopped once more. "I'll be at the club on Friday," he said, offering that small branch of peace. He already knew Ariel would be there, and he wouldn't ask if Ariel actually wanted that job. He'd pushed enough last night. He was happy, satisfied, and had no regrets for what had happened, but he didn't expect any more. He'd begun to get used to that.
