How in the world had he gotten to the forest? Markise had been here long enough now that he could find his way around well enough, but every time he thought he knew Hogwarts, he ended up lost again. Well, not lost, he knew exactly where he was, just not quite how he'd gotten there.
He wasn't in the forest yet, not technically. That wasn't against the rules, right? Still, he was wandering a lot closer than he knew he should. Since he'd ended up here, he might as well satisfy his curiosity, right?

Pat had decided to tamper her restlessness by going exploring. She had bundled up and headed outside, in the opposite direction as the windy lake. She remembered from her previous brief stay at the school that the forest was off limits. This however didn't stop her, since that was half the excitement of exploring new places. As she came to the trees, she saw someone else was toeing the same line. "Out for a casual stroll?" She asked with a smile.

Markise blinked, his rambling thoughts broken by the sound of a voice he didn't recognize. He looked back, and his lips curved into just a hint of a smile. "It's decent exercise," he countered, as though he was really here to work out his legs. His morning routine did well enough for that. "Have you ever been in?" he asked, inclining his head toward the trees. He hadn't been here nearly long enough to think he knew everyone, so it was an honest question.

"Nope. Not yet anyway. But unlike you, I didn't just come here to look at it today. Care to join me for an adventure?" She grinned playfully to let him know that she hadn't meant the comment as an insult but as a playful challenge. Pat hadn't planned on having company, but then she didn't think anyone else would be wandering around the same area. Since he was here, she may as well take advantage of it.
Pat took the opportunity to look him over. He was very good looking with great eyes, one of her favorite qualities in a guy. He was only a few inches taller then her, which made it even better. She hated when people loomed over her and made her strain her neck just to look at them during a conversation.

Markise glanced into the trees, giving it a moment's thought. He knew it was forbidden, that state obvious by the name of the forest alone. But Hufflepuff that he may be, Markise didn't mind bending rules or even breaking them when he felt like it. He figured it couldn't be that bad, considering how much Silver hung out in the forest, but it'd be a cheap thrill.
"I don't go into questionable places with strangers," he said, the words made teasing by the soft laughter in his pale blue eyes. He extended a hand toward the girl. "My name's Markise. Tell me yours and we can get going." His lips quirked.

Pat laughed. "Deal. It's Pat Connelly." She extended her hand and gave him a firm handshake. She inclined her head to the forest with a mischievous glimmer in her eyes. "Do you want to lead or follow?" If she was going to explore, she planned on getting the most enjoyment possible out of it, and a bit of flirting always made things more interesting.

Markise glanced cautiously into the shadows between the trees, then back to Pat. His lips curved slowly. "Ladies first," he said. He really wasn't much of a leader, though he'd managed the feat a few times since he'd gotten to Hogwarts, but she didn't need to know that. He had enough masculine pride to keep it to himself unless absolutely necessary.

Pat gave a nod of her head and entered the forest walls along a small dirt path. After navigating over a fallen branch, she turned her head back and started up a conversation over her shoulder. "Where are you from?" She couldn't help but notice that his accent wasn't from anywhere she'd traveled before. She assumed he was a transfer student because of it, but realized how easily her assumption could be wrong.

"New York," Markise said, taking a deep breath and one last glance over his shoulder before following after Pat. "I went to school in California for five years, though." And his accent was all messed up because of it. It didn't help that he'd been at Hogwarts since October. He had no idea how much he might have picked up being surrounded by British people. "Are you from England?" he asked.

Pat nodded, looking ahead once again so she didn't inadvertently trip. "I grew up in Kent, though I've been at Durmstrang for most of my schooling." She wondered where the path they were taking might lead, and why the forest was forbidden since they hadn't run into anything remotely dangerous or exciting so far.
"I've never been to New York or California, it must be exciting to have lived there." Pat loved to travel, and thought that America was such an interesting place. She hoped to move there after school, but didn't dare speak the wish out loud because her parents would never let her.

Markise made a low sound of displeasure at that. "I wouldn't call it exciting," he said. But then, he'd grown up in one and lived in the other long enough... and wasn't he always thinking about how boring Hogwarts was? If it wasn't for Friday nights he'd have gone insane.
"Durmstrang sounds exciting," he said, stepping over a large root in his way. He paused before asking, "Does it live up to its reputation?" If so, he knew he'd never survive there. His wandwork was pathetic, and that was the least of it. He only had just over a year left though, so it wasn't at all worth considering other schools anymore, but he was interested.

"It was very....intense." Pat didn't really know how to explain the differences, it was just something one had to experience on their own. She pushed a large evergreen branch to the side, turning and standing to the side as she held it in place for Markise to walk past as well. "The people there were all so serious. It wasn't much fun there off the pitch." She had never really cared for school and if it hadn't been for the amazing quidditch teams she would have begged to return to Hogwarts.

"You play Quidditch?" Markise asked. He stepped past Pat, then stopped, murmuring a brief thank you before gesturing for her to go on again. So far, the most dangerous thing he'd seen seemed to be that protruding root. It was easy to turn his mind back to the subject at hand; the greatest game in the wizarding world.

Pat nodded. "I live for quidditch. I've played nearly all the positions, but beater is my usual one. I love keeper, but my house at Durmstrang had a really good Keeper most the time I was there." Pat moved past Markise again on the path with a smile. She glanced around at the plants but still didn't see anything worth the title forbidden. "Do you play?"

Markise shook his head, for all the good it did with Pat ahead of him. "I'd rather watch than play," he said. "My sister plays, though. She was a Chaser at our old school, but she always wanted to play Beater." Unfortunately, the Beater positions had gone straight to the biggest, angriest-looking guys, regardless of skill.
