Michael wondered faintly if Dare realized how much it meant, just the small fact that he could keep his eyes on Dare's. It wasn't something Michael could do very often, he always had to turn away, but he could look into Dare's for hours and not feel the need to look somewhere else. Just little things like that made Michael love Dare all the more. He grinned and tilted his head up, lightly touching their noses together.

Dare's eyes softened, lightened at that tiny contact that felt like so much more. His lips curved into his crooked smile, and he wondered how anything could feel this good, this right. It was hard to believe that anyone else had ever felt this amazing. Dare nuzzled against Michael, aware of how incredibly lucky he was, even deeper than his conscious mind would allow. He could live on those smiles from Michael, he knew it. Dare continued the game, teasing against Michael without just kissing him, keeping up the dance, albeit at a much slower and less enthusiastic pace. He didn't expect anyone to be dense enough to interrupt them now.

Michael couldn't get over how great everything was, how light his chest felt at the look in Dare's eyes. His smile softened, then turned into a grin as his hand slid into Dare's pocket, his hand moving with the slowing movements of Dare's hips. He turned his head down to press a light kiss just below Dare's lips, avoiding them and teasing against the skin around them. His own body kept up the motions of the dance, and his eyelids lowered.

Dare's own eyes were open just enough to watch Michael through his thick lashes and fringe. He loved the intimate feel of Michael's hand in his pocket, the tease of his kiss. Last summer he'd never have dreamed they'd be this close, that he could be this close to someone. It hadn't occurred to him that he could have all the fire and the emotional connection too. He'd never thought that the physical connection could be so light and playful, and deep and meaningful all at once. Dare's hands slid up against Michael's back, just taking him in, enjoying the endless moment.

Michael sighed softly and kissed the corner of Dare's lips. He rolled his shoulders lightly against the hands at his back and sighed again at the feel of those large hands. The pounding beat faded in Michael's mind in favor of feeling Dare move and feeling the pure connection that they had. "I thought we came to dance," he said, just loud enough to hear over the music, and opened his eyes. His grin made his eyes sparkle.

Dare's lips curved into a crooked smile, and his eyes laughed with Michael. "We are dancing," he said, then, taking stock of the situation, realized that they were only barely moving anymore. Dare chuckled and straightened a bit. He kept their bodies lightly against each other, but brought his head up just enough to slightly lessen the temptation of kissing Michael. Then his smile turned into a mischievous grin. He straightened further and slid his arms into a different position, his free hand taking Michael's and lifting it. He pretended he had a rod in his back, looked at Michael's forehead, and changed the steps, as inappropriate for the music as they might be. "Are we dancing now?" he chuckled.

Michael couldn't help but laugh at how Dare changed the dance. He pulled his hand from Dare's pocket and put it up on his shoulder, imitating the overblown posture and turning his nose up. "You couldn't handle a ball room," he teased, grinning when he lost control over his lips. He wanted to keep his look straight, but it was so hard when he was with Dare.

Dare didn't give a thought for not smiling and chuckling with Michael. "And why couldn't I handle a ballroom?" he asked, half teasing, half curious. "I think I'm doing pretty well." Those around them seemed to agree, or at least they found it interesting. People slowly began backing off, and looking aside at the spectacle of a waltz being done in the Indie Room of the club. Dare didn't notice at all. His mind was shifting from his forcibly perfect posture into just enjoying himself. He'd found a beat in the music that he could match to, so he let his feet move, pulling Michael along with him.

Michael grinned again and raised an eyebrow, "You think you could do this with an entire room full of people?" He really thought that Dare could do it, though it would take a little bit of getting used to, Michael knew. Michael actually liked the idea of dancing with Dare in the middle of a ballroom, even with all of the looks he knew that they would get.

Dare's brows rose in unison, and he looked down his nose at Michael. "As opposed to the empty room we're in now?" he teased. He could imagine the difference, though. A glittering room filled with people dressed the way Michael had been in that picture was nothing like a dark club filled with faceless forms. He could imagine he'd be distracted for hours, wanting to look at the costumes and decorations, itching to draw something. Assuming he made it through the doors alive.

Michael glanced around at the small circle around them, then raised his eyebrow at Dare, "We might as well be in an empty room." There wasn't much danger of running into someone when everyone backed away like they were. His eyes sparkled, and he found himself wondering if they would ever have the chance to do that. He had the feeling they wouldn't, at least not with people that would just let them dance instead of backing away and staring at them.

Dare and Michael had gathered quite a few interested onlookers by this time. There were no censure-drenched whispers, though, and Dare didn't care if they were watched. He hardly noticed when the music shifted, the band having gotten wind of the makeshift ball beginning in the middle of the dance floor. He couldn't help noticing the change of light, though. Apparently they had become somewhat of a show. Dare only pulled Michael slightly closer, checked his posture again, and smiled widely, looking down at Michael as they turned.

Michael didn't know what to do in response to being watched, so he did the only thing he could think of and reset his posture as he continued to dance. He relaxed himself, even though he still kept the posture that had been ingrained in him for so long. He smiled and met Dare's eyes, catching out of the corner of his vision smiles and whispers, and he knew that they weren't negative.

Dare only had eyes for Michael. He could feel the people around them, but they didn't matter, not when he was dreaming again. He only let himself dance, let himself feel Michael so teasingly close, their legs brushing now and then as they moved. And then another couple stepped into the circle, attempting a semblance of the waltz that drew a few chuckles before settling into a more familiar version. "We're trendsetters," Dare said to Michael. His gaze flickered, not out to the others dancing, but over what he could see of Michael without breaking his posture. It was amazing seeing the easy grace exposed like this, and Dare drank it in.

Michael broke eye contact at that and glanced around for a moment, his smile widening before he looked up at Dare again. "Who would have thought it?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He didn't consider himself much of a trendsetter, but on one of their rounds he saw another couple join in. Maybe Dare would see some idea of what it would be like, after all.
