Michael's eyes narrowed slightly, it didn't seem right. But instead of letting himself get worked up like he knew he could, he let himself focus on the light motions of Dare's hand against his side. He didn't like how Logan spoke, didn't like how he talked about whatever his and Markise's relationship was, even if he didn't exactly like Markise, either. He knew it would be better to let Dare speak.

Dare's eyes hardened further. He's making me a coat. Markise didn't give out clothing as he walked through the corridors, and even if Dare didn't know a thing about how clothes were made, it wasn't a leap to know that a coat was a lot more work than a tee shirt. "Nothing important," Dare said. He looked both ways down the corridor, gave a glance toward the library doors, and leaned closer to Logan, his hand stilling at Michael's side and firming there. His voice lowered. "Markise comes to my crying again and you're going to hear from me," he said simply. Dare didn't take his threat as far as thinking through the details.

Ariel's eyes hardened and the light brown darkened at that. He didn't know of Markise going to Dare crying in the first place, but there was always the chance, considering how little he had seen Markise. He wasn't afraid of Dare, though, he had the feeling that he could take him in a fight. As for Michael, Ariel didn't spare a thought for him. "Really, what are you going to do?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Michael's eyes widened slightly and he tightened his hand against Dare, pulling him just a bit closer. He knew how good Dare was with a wand, and he didn't care to have him in a fight, even if Michael was there to help. But he had the distinct impression that if something did happen, he wouldn't be there to help. He looked up at Dare, trying not to show the worry that came over him.

Dare felt Michael, and part of him realized what a dangerous situation that was, but he couldn't back down, not without setting aside both his pride and his right to defend his friends. So Dare didn't back down. He wouldn't think of letting Michael step in for him, this was his battle, and he'd been the one to start it. Dare could have gone for Logan's jugular, could have threatened to out him, but he knew he couldn't, not after what he and Michael had been through. Rather, he gave a detailed description of a specific physical torture that required no specific strength or magical skills at all, if one only knew a basic stunning spell, the quickest way to create a eunuch, and where the pieces could be stored while waiting for a Healer to arrive.

Ariel's eyes darkened further, then he shook his head, "I really doubt that you would do that." Maybe he didn't completely doubt that Dare would do it, but he couldn't bring himself to fully believe that he would, either. He opened his mouth to say something, but shut it as soon as he realized what he had been about to say, it wouldn't be right to say something negative about Dare's choices, not when Ariel himself had finally accepted that he was gay.

Michael's eyes had widened again and he tightened his arm around Dare. His eyebrows came together at Dare's descriptions and he couldn't disguise his worry any more. He understood being protective, he understood wanting revenge. It wasn't as though he hadn't been spending as much time as possible trying to figure out who exactly had gone after Dare. But Michael wasn't used to seeing Dare like that, and he didn't know how to react.

One corner of Dare's lips quirked humorlessly. "Try me," he said, and despite the fact that he knew it was a bad idea, removed his arm from around Michael's waist, bringing it over his wand. "Do you know why they call me Dare?" he asked rhetorically. It had absolutely nothing to do with what people assumed. Yes, it was partially a derivative of his name, but aside from that, the only two people who knew were him and Markise, and Dare knew Markise wouldn't tell any more than he would.

Ariel reached for his wand, his knee coming up as he pulled it out, though he left it by his side. "Do you really want to do this?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He would rather not do it, didn't care to get a detention for fighting in the halls, but if Dare insisted, then who was Ariel to refuse? He glanced over at Michael, but so far he had only watched, and Ariel didn't know anything about Michael to think of him as a threat.

Michael's eyes widened yet again and his left hand hovered over his waistband where his wand sat. He stepped forward and took Dare's right hand with his, leaving both of their left hands free just in case something did happen. "No, he doesn't," Michael answered then tugged lightly on Dare's hand. He did not want to be involved in anything. And something about Logan's posture said that he wouldn't hold back if something happened.

Dare's jaw tensed, and he stood another moment before straightening, taking a mental step back. He took a long, deep breath and lifted his chin. No, he didn't want to do this, but he would have, and probably would have gotten seriously hurt in the process. "I watch out for my friends," Dare said, his fingers threading through Michael's. Dare gave Logan one last hard look, then turned away, bracing himself for whatever might happen with his back turned as he tugged Michael with him down the corridor.

Ariel chewed hard on his tongue and tucked his wand back in place firmly against his leg. He was glad that there hadn't been anything, he didn't want his brother getting in the least bit involved in Hogwarts. He stared after the couple for a few long seconds and then ducked into the library to try and wait out some of his anger. They knew. But really, how could he be angry with Markise for it? Dare and him were close friends, it only made sense. That didn't make Ariel any more happy about the idea.

Michael watched Logan disappear into the library, and only then did he breathe again and let his muscles relax. He didn't say anything to Dare, if he hadn't realized what could have happened, he wouldn't have stopped. There was no reason for Michael to say something if Dare already realized it. So Michael just followed Dare, forgetting for the moment that he had been headed for the library.

Dare let the silence stretch for a while, releasing Michael's hand and taking the other so they could walk side by side. He took slow breaths, calming himself, and rather than dwelling on the stupidity of his actions, silently thanked Michael for catching him when he had. "Will you come to work with me tonight?" Dare asked at last. He didn't want to dwell. He'd have plenty of time to think it over after Michael had left, once he was calm and could look at things objectively. Maybe he and Michael could talk about it, too.

Michael felt bad for the glance he flicked over his shoulder towards the library, but he couldn't help it when that was something he needed to do. He only paused for a moment though before nodding. "Yes, I'll come," he said, pulling his eyes back to Dare. He could pass up a couple hours in the library to go to work with Dare and make sure he calmed down and that everything was alright.
