Dare glanced at Michael, then looked curiously in the direction of Michael's gaze. It took him a second, but his lips curved. "They're talking into cell phones," he said, then tried to relate it for Michael to the use of telephones in American Pie. He leaned to press a brief kiss to Michael's cheek, trusting his hair to block the sight, then pulled back quickly, clearing his throat as he looked at Michael with a secretive smile. He hoped for Michael's sake that no one had seen that, but for him, it was worth it if someone had.

Michael decided not to think too hard on the cell phones, he had found out that it was much easier to just accept and move on when it came to understanding muggle things. So he smiled at Dare and went back to observing. Then his eyes caught on something that made him slow to a stop. Across the street from them was another couple, their arms were linked comfortably around each other's waist, and they were quite obviously male. Michael didn't mean to stare, but when the couple paused at a shop window he couldn't help it, it wasn't something he was used to seeing, at Hogwarts it sometimes felt like they were the only ones.

"What is it?" Dare asked, stopping at Michael's side and following his gaze. It took him a moment to spot the same couple that Michael was looking at, but when he did, his eyebrows rose. He felt a little hypocritical for his surprise, but it wasn't something he was used to seeing, either. Dare pulled his gaze away from the men to look at the nearby crowd, but beyond the occasional glance, nothing. He turned to look at the crowd around himself and Michael, and still, nothing. "No one's looking," he said to Michael.

Michael watched still, his hand tightening in Dare's as he watched the men turn and walk into the store. Then he slowly brought his eyes back up to Dare. "It's so weird," he said softly, then his lips turned up in a smile. "I think I like London," he said then, shifting just a little closer to Dare. No looks, no whispers, no hexes or slurs, it was freeing. It was amazing and Michael turned his eyes back to the streets, wondering how many more couples they would see.

Dare still had surprise written on his face when Michael looked back at him. His lips curved into a smile, though. It was hard to believe that they could be this free just from stepping onto the streets of a Muggle city. "I think I like it too," Dare agreed. He leaned even closer to Michael, then glanced around, but no one seemed to notice that there were two young men holding hands. Dare took a deep breath, then took a risk, just to see what would happen. His free hand rose to Michael's jaw and he stole another brief kiss without hiding it this time, his heart thudding all the while.

Michael's eyes blinked open as soon as their lips parted, more surprised that there had been no whispers or jars than the fact that Dare had kissed him in public. He sighed softly and smiled again, his eyes bright with excitement. They had never been in public somewhere that there were no negative reactions, and it made Michael's heart swell. His hand tightened again and he looked forward, "Let's go."

Dare grinned as he headed down the street hand in hand with Michael. He let himself look at everything, and his chest swelled with excitement at being able to do this. No one stared, no one whispered, it was insane. He was getting less obvious attention than he had walking the streets alone in a lot of places, let alone holding his boyfriend's hand. It was liberating.
Eventually they'd found a trustworthy-looking body modification place. Dare had picked out a ring he'd wanted and paid for it, though he hadn't been able to wear it just yet. They told him he could after the swelling went down, and in the meantime, he had a larger one in its place, just off-center of his bottom lip. The pain hadn't bothered him much, and there wasn't swelling yet, so Dare grinned as they left, his stack of paper money thinner than it had been when they'd gone in. Dare slipped his arm around Michael's waist as they stepped out onto the street again.

Michael had cringed when they had done the piercing and put the ring through, wrinkling his nose and running his tongue over his own lower lip. when they left the shop and he put his own arm around Dare's waist, he couldn't stop staring at Dare's lip, only flicking glances up often enough to keep from running in to anyone. "It's so odd," he said, then glanced up at Dare. "Not that it doesn't look really good," he added truthfully. It did look good, but he still couldn't get over the sight.

Dare's grin only faded enough for him to sweep his tongue against the strange protrusion from his mouth. He thought it looked great, and it'd be even better after he got his other ring in, but he had to wait a week or two for that. "Yeah, it fffeels a little weird," Dare said, his f slipping around the ring. Dare made a face, then chuckled at himself. "I'll get used to it," he assured Michael, and himself as well. He knew it would work itself out, because everyone with a lip ring didn't have a speech impediment, after all. Dare ran his tongue over the ring again, unable to stop playing with it now that it was there.

Michael grinned and nudged Dare lightly, "You're going to make it sore." He felt the need to say it even though he knew that it probably wouldn't make any difference whether he said it or not. Dare would still play with it and it was going to be sore anyway. The shock factor had begun to wear off, just enough so that Michael could start to wonder about other things, like how weird it was going to be to kiss Dare with the ring. At least the first few times, anyway.

Dare made a sound of displeasure at Michael's warning and forced himself to stop, at least until he forgot again, which he knew would happen. "I wouldn't want that," he said, his teasing tone belied by the sudden path of his gaze down to Michael's lips. He wondered...just one brief kiss... Dare leaned over and stole one, only just managing to stop on the street. It was odd having that small barrier between them. Dare almost regretted having gotten it for a moment, but told himself that he'd get used to it eventually.

Michael's nose wrinkled the smallest amount at the strange new feeling of the piece of metal keeping him form full contact with Dare's lips when the kiss broke. "I'm going to have to get used to that," he said, then pressed another brief kiss to Dare's lips before turning to continue down the street. And if they couldn't get used to it, he knew that there were always studs that could be bought instead of the larger metal hoops.

Dare hoped they got used to it fast. He wanted to kiss Michael properly, and he wasn't waiting two weeks to do it. He used that thought to keep himself from playing with his new jewelry again. He didn't want to make it sore. Dare tightened his arm around Michael in a light squeeze as they walked on through more sightseeing.
As the sun slipped toward the horizon, the boys didn't notice, or perhaps they just ignored it. Either way, those in the streets tended to be slightly louder now, more energetic, and Dare couldn't help soaking up that energy. They'd stumbled upon a row of clubs now, and Dare was itching to go into one. It was as they stopped in front of doors open to Indie music, where a group of young men was entering, that Dare thought he'd decided. He looked back at Michael, and inclined his head lightly towad the door. Should we give it a try?

Michael looked from Dare to the club, then back again as he tried to decide. It really wasn't that hard of a decision, though, and so he grinned and nodded. It would be fun dancing with Dare somewhere that fear of whispers and stares didn't enter his mind. He tightened his hand at Dare's side and he looked towards the club, earning just a peek inside as the last person went in.

Dare's grin returned at Michael's, and together they went through the doors, into a club like nothing Dare had ever seen. The band onstage was the first thing that caught Dare's attention, and he pointed it out excitedly to Michael, as if there was any missing it. His eyes glittered in the colored lights, and he couldn't stop himself from moving, couldn't stop the pulse of his blood with the beat of the music. All around them people milled, guys and girls from barely legal through their late 20's and early 30's mostly, some dressed down, and others glittering to attract attention. Dare leaned close to Michael. "I feel under dressed," he teased, then gave Michael a squeeze. He wasn't under dressed, and with the way the lights played off Michael's hair, neither was he.
