Markise stood stock-still for a moment, not at all wanting to keep walking with Michael. But he knew he was stuck here if he didn't, and the possibility of Michael hexing him was better than a group of Slytherins, wasn't it? All at once, Markise's feet moved, and he followed after Michael, though far enough behind that he was hopefully not too much in the way anymore.

Michael kept up his angry walk until he reached the end of the corridor, a blank wall that looked like a dead end, and started looking for the block to unlock it. It had been long enough by then for him to have calmed down a little, and he sighed, aggravated both with Markise and with himself. Markise had had no right to ask those things, but maybe Michael had been a little hard on him. He tried to clear his head, though, it was so hard to find that little spot when he was distracted....

Markise chewed his gum furiously, refusing to give himself another opportunity to speak. He didn't know why he'd had to ask Michael. He hardly knew Michael, and Michael didn't like him much--if at all--anyway. He should have just waited until he'd gotten Dare alone, though it didn't really seem like that was going to happen. Markise stood a decent distance away, his gaze moving periodically between Michael and the dark path behind them. He really didn't like it in here. "Can I help?" Markise asked, then snapped his mouth closed again and pressed his lips tight. He didn't need to talk. He needed to shut the hell up and get away.

Michael's eyes had just found the mark on the stone and reached for his wand when he heard Markise speak. He closed his eyes and sighed, then, his hand settling on his waistband, turned towards him. He took in a deep breath and opened his eyes, almost feeling bad when he saw the way Markise was holding himself. "I get defensive about Dare and the relationship," he said, and then licked his lips. "It's not...just you." He had been just the same whenever Emilian had asked questions.

Markise blinked, trying to forcibly shift his mind away from the dark corridor they were trapped in and only marginally successful. He shook his head briefly, then glanced behind them again. "It's okay," he said softly. "I'm...I'm really sorry I was being nosy." Markise looked back up at Michael then, glad to see that he only looked annoyed now, and not murderous, then dropped his gaze. "Can we please get out of here?" he asked nervously. He didn't like not being able to see where he was, it freaked him the hell out, and knowing how close they were to a group of people who'd actually mess with someone as scary as Michael had been a couple minutes ago didn't help at all.

Michael sighed and nodded, turning to tap the brick with his wand. He wall slid away and he stepped out into a much better lit corridor, just across from a window as if to prove they had gotten out from underground. He was glad to be out of the corridor as well, if only because he would be able to get away from Markise.

Markise sucked the bubble he'd been blowing back into his mouth, then sighed in relief at the brightly lit corridor. Thank God. He looked over at Michael, wanting to say something, but telling himself that he shouldn't. "Um, thank you," he compromised. "I'll just, um...can you tell me which way to a bigger corridor?" he asked. You don't have to come with me. He wanted to get away from Michael right now just as much as Michael wanted to get away from him.

Michael nodded and glanced around, there was a larger corridor down both ways, but the largest was to the right. "That way, and take a left when you reach the mural," he said, pointing down the right direction. He was going to head the other way, even if it was going to take him a little longer to leave, he just didn't want to be around Markise and chance blowing up at him.

Markise nodded his thanks, not trusting himself to speak again, then turned right as directed. He didn't particularly care where he was going right now, just as long as it was away from the dungeons. He distracted himself by blowing bubbles.
