Ariel watched Markise, that was so much better than just Kise, and then nodded. "Siblings can be a pain," he said, he knew his own brother could be, trying to control everything. His eyes darkened slightly and he looked away, Markise didn't sound like a girl's name. That thought made him smirk, Ariel wasn't considered a boy's name, either, so who was he to judge on that front?

Brindle pouted at her reflection in the window. Markise was the pain. Always had to be the respectable older sibling, even if she knew he wasn't that good. No one was. And Ariel--she fully intended on thinking of him that way, no matter what she decided to call him--wasn't much more exciting than Markise at the moment, answering in half sentences, then looking out the window.

"They can," Markise said. He assumed that the guy's full name was Ariel Logan and so thought of him as Ariel. He liked that name, but he couldn't exactly say as much, considering how fast the guy had corrected himself. "So how many do you have?" Markise asked Ariel. "I just have this one," he added, crooking his thumb in Brindle's general direction. He half wondered if she'd get bored and leave. At this point, he couldn't say he had a preference.

Ariel's eyes darkened again at the thought of his brother, but answered anyway, "Just an older brother." And that's one too many. He didn't envy those that didn't have siblings. Of course, he refused to think of the fact that, without his brother, he would have been in an orphanage when his dad left. One thing, he supposed, his brother was good for. He let his eyes go back to Markise, it was useless to try to keep them away when he was so fascinated by his...her...appearance.

"Older brothers are no fun," Brindle said, just loud enough for Markise to hear her. She'd known she'd have more fun if she'd just left her trunk with him and taken off, but no, she'd actually wanted his company, since they were going so far, and since they were going to see Dare. And Silver, but details. Anyway, she was considering leaving her trunk with Markise now.

Markise threw another annoyed look at Brindle, but didn't give her any other response, knowing it would just encourage her. She was definitely bored, and he was almost wanting to be alone with Ariel Logan, to see if the guy would finally get it out then. Markise arched an eyebrow at the guy watching him--there was no use pretending he wasn't--and looked right back. He had half a mind to say something, but Brin was here, and she'd jump right on anything she could. So, for the moment he was silent, and wondered if Ariel Logan would turn back to the window again with the lull.

Older brothers are no fun. Did that mean that Markise was the older brother? Ariel hoped not. Markise was much too good looking to be called a boy. Then, perhaps that was why he was so good looking. Ariel shifted at that thought, creasing his eyebrows slightly and forcing himself to look out the window. It didn't matter anyway, and it would do no good to keep staring if it only brought about uncomfortable thoughts such as that.

This was like pulling teeth! Markise was being all quiet, and that Ariel guy was even worse. Brindle sighed, then turned to look at her brother. She watched him for a moment before breaking the silence, though she kept her voice low. "I'm going to wander," she said, as though she really needed to explain herself. "I'll come back before the train stops, all right?" She wasn't ditching him so much as...no, she was definitely ditching him.

Markise looked away from Ariel Logan and nodded at Brindle. She'd be much happier wandering the train looking for people to talk to, and he'd do just fine without her in his hair. He wasn't worried about her, she could take care of herself decently. "Have fun, Brin," Markise said softly. Even if that Ariel guy kept to himself the rest of the ride, Markise would find some way to entertain himself.

Ariel watched Brindle leave and then stared at the door for a few moments in silence, before his eyes were, once again, pulled to Markise. "Apologies, but," he flicked his eyes toward the empty seat. "Girls like her drive me insane." She hadn't said much or done much, but he had gotten a definite vibe from her that he hadn't liked very much. He shrugged lightly and hunched down in his seat, staring at the one in front of him to try to figure out if his legs were long enough to stretch over comfortably.

The edges of Markise's lips curved up slightly at that, and he turned to look at Ariel Logan again. "They drive me insane, too," he said. "She's not always like that, she's just wired from the move." He was surprised she'd even managed to sit down. It was Markise's fault they were going to Hogwarts, not hers, and he still wasn't entirely sure why she'd decided to come with him. He appreciated the gesture, though.

Ariel raised his eyebrow, he was excited to move, surely, but wired wasn't a term he would use. Maybe excited wasn't even right, it was more of a relief than anything. "I wasn't aware that there were others actually excited to move," he said, "The majority of the people I've met tend to do a lot of crying and whining about it." He wrinkled his nose slightly as a memory of a crying gaggle of girls saying goodbye to their friend that was moving.

Markise shook his head, his soft hair shifting slightly with the motion, wisps of blue-tipped lavender rising, then falling into place. "That's not Brin," he said, glancing toward the door, then back to Ariel. "She sees life as one big adventure, and really, we weren't going to Europe any other way." Markise's New York accent was showing through as he spoke, not that he noticed. It had been pretty thick his first year at SWIM, or so he'd been told, but mellowed with his time in California. Not that it mattered. Ariel's accent was obvious enough.

"Optimism," Ariel said, rolling his eyes and looking out the window. He couldn't remember the last time he had been actually optimistic about something, and had always been thoroughly annoyed by the people that were. It wasn't smart to be optimistic, because it never failed that something bad would happen because of it. Ariel hadn't noticed any accent on Markise, he had already decided that he was going to be the only person in the school with an Australian accent, and decided to try not to pay any attention to anyone else's.

"It's not for everyone," Markise said. He tended toward pessimism himself, so he guessed that Brindle balanced him out. "So what about you?" he asked Ariel. The guy had scorned both the teary-eyed and the optimistic, so it was hard to tell. Markise mentally shrugged. At least he seemed to scorn everyone equally. Markise didn't volunteer his own thoughts on the subject. That wasn't a story he felt like sharing, and since Ariel didn't seem to have much interest him except the occasional stare, he figured he was safe.
