Markise's eyes sparked with interest, and he slid forward on his seat to look closer. He didn't know why he thought Ariel's tattoos were so hot, but there was no denying that he did. It was all he could do not to ask if he could see the one on his back. His eyes dropped to the tattoo again, the perfect melding of design permanently etched on Ariel's skin. "It's really beautiful," he said, reaching out without even thinking about it to touch. He felt a sudden zap of awareness with the contact and lifted his hand quickly, his gaze rising automatically to Ariel's. What was he doing?

Ariel raised an eyebrow as he met Markise's eyes, but made no comment. He had no problems with it, once he pushed past his instinctual urge to jerk away. This guy knew nothing of his past, didn't know about the rumors, be it the ones his ex had spread or the ones the guys did. He moved his palm over his inner arm, which looked something like water, shining in the sun, the motion subtly brushing away Markise's hand. "He did this first, said it would be best to get the painful part over with first." And it had been something Ariel was interested in, swimming, so he had just been happy to have it done, so no arguments had been raised.

Markise blinked at that raised eyebrow; what did it mean? Markise wasn't a verified expert at reading people, but Ariel was a complete mystery to him, and damned if his interest wasn't peaked by that. "So did it hurt pretty bad?" Markise asked softly, drawing his hand back to his lap. He had the strong urge to bring his hand back against Ariel's skin and see if he felt that zap again, but lucky enough self-control not to.

"It hurt, not as bad as right here, though," Ariel said, patting the underside of his upper arm. He turned his arm over and ran his fingers over the darker shapes on the thicker skin of the top of his arm. "Honestly the worst part is the itching a few days after you get it done." He wrinkled his nose at the memory and shifted his shoulders, it still did itch every so often, though it wasn't constant like it had been a few days before.

Markise's gaze followed the path of Ariel's fingers up to that roll of his shoulders before glancing away into the near-empty compartment. He blinked, told himself to calm the hell down, then looked back at Ariel, his smoke-rimmed eyes still feeling what he didn't want to dwell on. "It really is beautiful," Markise said again. "It was worth it, though?" Markise thought that he might like to have one some day, somewhere hidden, but he was really turned off by the pain.

Ariel nodded, "He's really good and I was one of the first in the school to get any." He smirked softly at that, it was a secret source of pride for him, before looking up at Markise. The look in those amazingly blue eyes made him tilt his head, and he got the strange feeling Markise wasn't just talking about his tattoos. He really, really hoped not, he didn't want that complication that...temptation. He pulled his eyes away from Markise's and looked back down at his arm, which he was only lightly touching because it was something to focus on.

Markise saw that smirk, and it only added to the dangerous temptation he was feeling. He would have looked away again, tried to break it, but Ariel dropped his gaze first, and Markise was left wondering if Ariel was feeling any of this, or if it was all in Markise's head. It wouldn't be the first time he'd fallen for someone unattainable. Markise licked his lips again as he watched that soft motion of Ariel's hand, his gum pushed to the side of his mouth for the moment. "Are you going to get more?" he asked at last. He didn't want to fall into silence again, not right now when his mind was working in its current direction.

"Most likely," Ariel said, keeping his eyes firmly on his arm. "Seems kind of useless to stop now, doesn't it?" He didn't see himself getting a suit or anything, but another sleeve...maybe some more on his back...he wasn't completely sure yet. Of course, liking tattoos didn't necessarily mean that he was going to end up with a lot more than he had, his brother barely had any and he was an artist. He was quite fond of the ones he had, though, and wouldn't mind adding a few more to his collection.

Markise gave a light, half-chuckling hm of agreement. It felt sultry, and he told himself to tone it down again. If he didn't want to start out with the same issues he'd had at SWIM, he needed to try to act at least a little straight. Markise chewed his gum for a moment, then decided he shouldn't let silence fall again and spoke. "I'd like to get one some day, but I can't decide on anything, and anyway, there's no way my parents would let me. I guess they have to draw the line somewhere." The rule seemed to be that he could do whatever he wanted with himself as long as it wasn't permanent.

Ariel snorted and sneered, "Parents," he said, looking up at Markise. The last time he had so much as heard from one of his parents he had been eight. "Get one, it seems to me the only thing parents are good for is telling you what to do." Not that he'd really know, he barely remembered life with his father, and his mother had been out of the picture before his conscious memory. "Even if you can't decide on anything, go in a shop and flip through some books."

Markise could feel heat stealing up his neck and across the apples of his cheeks. "I can't do that," he said, blinking a couple times, then dropping his gaze to his hands. "I'm not going into a tattoo shop all alone, I get enough odd looks as it is." He didn't normally mind, but there were different levels of odd looks, and Markise could imagine the ones he'd get.

Ariel shrugged, "Odd looks, everyone gets them, if they're around the wrong group of people." He had gotten plenty of weird looks, so he knew what it was like, though his looks had been accompanied by whispers and giggles. "Besides, people rarely go into shops alone, they usually have someone else with them," he added, shrugging lightly again. Most of the people that had went into his brother's shop had been with someone else, he couldn't remember very many that hadn't, even if they were just looking.

Markise looked back up. "Yeah, well, I'm not dragging my sister with me," he said. As if that wouldn't be bad enough, she'd go telling their parents, and then he'd be screwed. "You've got to be legal, anyway. If your brother's not a tattoo artist," he added. There was no way his parents would sign off on that. And they were watching him closely enough as it was, since he'd come out to them.

"You can always be friends with someone whose brother's a tattoo artist," Ariel said, raising an eyebrow. He knew his brother could have been shut down, considering how many times he had rounded up people's ages when they were close enough to being of age, as long as he had considered the tattoo of good taste and the decision of sound mind.

Markise's eyes brightened again. He might have been fishing for Ariel to come with him, but this was even better. "I think I could do that," he said, his lips curving slightly. God, this was going to be so hard for a while. He'd get used to it, though, he told himself. He hadn't missed Ariel's offer of friendship on alternate levels, either. Most guys definitely didn't up and announce friendship on a first meeting. Down, boy, he told himself.
