Chase stood looking out over the lake, shoulders propped back against the trunk of a large tree. For once, he wasn't watching people, having had enough of that last time he'd met up with Vannah. His eyes narrowed at the thought. He didn't have a clue what she'd been up to, but it had all ended just how it always did; they'd stormed off in their own directions.
His face was pensieve as he shifted from one thought to the next, trying to decide what it was he wanted. The masquerade had raised a hell of a lot more questions than it had answered, and he was left wondering why.

Cleo surfaced from the lake, damp curls tumbling over her shoulders as water droplets flew from her skin. She made her way to the edge of the lake and walked over to where she had left her towel, spread out on the soft grass. She sat down, sighing with content as the warm sun beat down on her skin. She hadn't been to any classes yet, hadn't felt the inclination and her days had been spent getting to know the castle, in the common room or out by the lake.
She glanced to one side briefly, but her gaze was soon directed that way again as she saw the figure by the true. She bit her lip, she could tell even from here who it was and since their first meeting he had been running through her mind. She thought about going and saying hi, but banished the idea quickly.

Chase had heard the sound of water being disturbed, and his gaze had shifted, covertly watching. He recognized her immediately, and his mind had abandoned all other issues to replay their last meeting, the heat, the powerful feeling of pushing her to break, and her challenge, her ultimatum after. She'd more or less told him not to talk to her again unless he was willing to put out. His lips curved at that; he didn't approach her, but turned his gaze back out over the water, though he could still feel her presence nearby.

Cleo could sense him watching her for a time and it took all her strength to remain where she was and not acknowledge him. The memory of their last meeting skittered through her mind and she winced at her last words to him. The heat between them had been raw and their verbal spar a challenge which she had thoroughly enjoyed. She sighed and got up, she wasn't the tpye of girl to sit back and watch. She started to walk towards him then stopped. She suddenly felt exposed, her bikini covering less skin than her previous clothing caused her to feel less protected. She stood, not wanting to turn back, yet not sure enough of herself to take the last few steps, something about Chase was different.

Chase felt her drawing closer, and flicked a glance in her direction only to see that she'd stopped. He didn't know what she was thinking about, but he arched one brow in question. Are you going to stand there all day? He wasn't going to be the one to close the gap; he'd won the last round only if he didn't give in to the challenge she'd laid after.

With that single glance Cleo rose to the challenge. She was not going to let Chase win, she was always in control. A smile settled into place on her lips, but with every step it became more and more natural. "Hi" she said softly as she finally reached him, stopping a couple of feet away. She ran a hand through her hair, settling it properly as it was drying in the sun. "Are you going to haunt me for the rest of my days?" she asked lightly, shifting her weight onto one leg.

"Haunt you?" Chase repeated, watching the motion of Cleo's hand rather than looking her in the eye. If she'd wanted to be loked in the eye, she'd be wearing a hell of a lot more than she was. "Did I affect you that much?" He knew he had, for those moments in the Common Room, at least. Still, it was worth hearing her say it.

Cleo couldn't help but smile at Chase slightly, he was right, he had affected her. But no way in hell would she admit that at the moment. "You seem to appear when I'm around." she said, explaining the haunt me comment before answering his question. "It changed me for the rest of my life" she said, her face smooth, the only giveaway of her teasing was the sparkle in her eye. "You can see I got dressed up for the occassion." She added, sarcasm ringing through her voice, as one arm swept over her figure.

Chase's lips crooked into a smirk at that, and humor gleamed in his eyes along with the expected visual appreciation. "Yes, I can see," he said, bringing his gaze back up to Cleo's. He was under no delusions that he actually had changed her for the rest of her life, but he'd play along. "I hope while you've been pining away for me you haven't let yourself waste away. Though it doesn't look like you have," he added. She knew she looked good; she was just one of those girls who did.

Cleo grinned, "I like to keep up appearances" she said. She flicked her hair over her shoulder and inspected Chase, not caring that he would probably notice the intensity of the inspection. "Looks to me as if you haven't been, pining away, as you so delicately put it" she said with a smile. She ran a hand through her hair, wondering where this conversation might end up.

"What can I say, I'm a survivor," Chase said, fully aware of the path of Cleo's gaze. He didn't shift under her scrutiny, but stood as relaxed as ever, thumbs tucked into the front pockets of his jeans, and let her look her fill. "Am I everything you've dreamed about?" he teased.

"My hearts desire" Cleo retorted playfully, her eyes twinkling. "I suppose you're used to hearing that though. You must have a lot of fans" she said, referring to the countless girls that probably threw themselves at him. "You must be very stong to survive that" she teased, making it sound as if it was a chore being idolised by so many. "Maybe it's something we share in common" she said lightly, one brow rising a fraction in a challenge.

Fans, Chase inwardly scoffed. Not likely. It seemed once a girl had gotten her turn, she was gone without a backward glance, and Chase had simply given up on trying to gather any more. He'd bored of that game, and decided that being evasive was much more to his liking. "Perhaps," he said to Cleo. "Or maybe I'm not what the rumors make me out to be." He never had been, exactly. Of course, that was why they were rumors to begin with, wasn't it?

Cleo could sense that something had shifted, but she was in too deep to just walk away. "Well whatever the rumours say, I say that you definitely know how to kiss a girl." Cleo said flippantly. "But a kiss isn't everything." she continued lightly. She knew that she hadn't treated Chase as she normally treated guys, then in her opinion, Chase wasn't a normal guy. She was treading on thin ice and she had no idea how it would turn out.

"No, a kiss isn't everything," Chase agreed. A kiss was nothing, in the scheme of things, unless someone decided that it was more. And, even then, it was only something to that someone. "People make a kiss out to be a lot more than it is. Of course, people make a lot of things out to be more than they are." Cynical, but in his opinion, true.
