The rush of cool night air on her skin was a relief after the heat of the dance floor. Even so, her skin did not cool, warmed from within by the masked figure at her side. Her skirts shushed around her as they reached the bottom of the steps and headed into the dim glow of the gardens.

The open air gave the Phantom room to breathe, though it didn't help him as much as it could have, not with the beautiful girl he was arm in arm with. "It's beautiful," he said, though it was only something to say until they were in a secluded corner. He walked down the path with her, looking for somewhere to go where the chance of being interrupted was the smallest.

"It is," the Princess agreed. She breathed deeply, using the moment to calm herself, though she knew the moment would be short-lived. Anticipation was rich in her blood, knowing what they had come out for. Her free hand trailed out beside her as they walked, lightly touching the velvet blossoms ringing the lily pond. What was there to say, really?

The Phantom momentarily lost himself as he watched the Princess, silently admiring her and counting himself lucky that she hadn't run from him back in the beginning. He would never have thought that a girl would have the effect on him that she did. His thoughts were becoming uncomfortable and so he looked away, once again searching.

The Princess's thoughts shifted naturally to the man at her side, to all that she had confessed to another in the gardens this night. She did not want to think of it now, when she might confess to him. "How did you get in?" she asked, purposefully shifting her thoughts to the safe. "Was there no one at the gates?"

"No one asked me anything," the Phantom said, looking back down at her. They were deep in the gardens, away from the low hum from the dance floor. "I suppose they had no reason to think someone would sneak in." He turned his eyes away, seeing a small opening between two bushes that he hoped no one would see, and then led her through it, down a quiet path.

"Then they were not as clever as you," the Princess said, her skirts catching unnoticed on the bushes as she slipped through at the Phantom's side. She hardly noticed the change in scenery, she was so lost in thought, and the fight against thought. Her heart thudded steadily, waiting as the tension built between them.

"I suppose not," he said, glancing down the small pathway. He pulled them to a stop, turning to her and brushing her hair away from her neck gently. "I've been to many balls, and none of the people I have seen compare to you," he said, knowing he had said it before more than once, but it was true, and she needed to know. He took her face in both gloved hands and kissed her softly.

The Princess's eyes closed on a sigh as the Phantom's lips met hers, the sensation of cloth, on his hands, against her skin, somehow erotic, though she would not have called it such. Her hands rose, curling into the lapels of his coat, and held on for dear life and sanity as her lips parted, inviting him in, wordlessly asking for physical confirmation of the words she clutched to her heart.

The Phantom's hands trailed down the Princess' neck, palming her shoulders before moving across her back. That he couldn't feel her skin meant nothing to him, he knew that she could feel him, and he wasn't willing to break contact to pull off the gloves. It only increased the pleasure of the kiss and the building tension in his muscles.

The Princess shivered lightly, the soft motion of gloved hands on her exposed skin sending ripples of energy through her body. Her hands tightened against his coat, then forced themselves to release before sliding flat against his chest up, behind his shoulders. One speared into the strangely short length of his hair, marveling at it, but the other sought his cheek again, sought the feel of his cool skin beneath her palm as they kissed.

The Phantom's arms wrapped around her, pulling her tight against him and taking what contact he could. His blood rushed through his veins, pounding in his ears. The skin under her hand on his cheek felt like it was burning, all of the skin on skin contact he was missing because of the gloves and coat concentrating in his cheek and lips.

A soft sound of desire lifted from the Princess's throat, caught in the intensity of the kiss. She wanted more, so much more, but couldn't ask for the spinning of her head and the tight press of her lungs as she melted against him. So her hand tightened in his hair and she broke the kiss, gasping the cool night air as her hand guided his head, silently asked him to drink her in as he wished, as she wished.

Perfect girl for you. Pandora's words echoed in his head again as the Phantom eagerly pressed hungry kisses to the Princess' jaw and neck, opening his lips to taste her skin, then moving to her collarbone. His arms tightened around her for a moment before loosening so that he was free to move over her shoulder, forcing himself to lengthen the time, to increase the tension which would make the end result so much better.

The hand in his hair tightened again, then gentled, urging him on as the hand at his cheek was forced to abandon the tempting span of skin to clutch once more at his coat. The tight expanse of her bodice was suddenly restrictive, forcing her chest to rise heavily with each breath, dizzying her further, though she gave no sign. She pressed into his body, absorbing all she could through layers of cloth, her skin burning where his lips touched.
