Hook had walked through the more populated areas, observing only, then headed for the gardens. The activity inside had his adrenaline moving, but it was the soft quiet of the outdoors that he craved now. Tall-booted feet moved down the steps, into the subtle beauty of the gardens, and he paused at the bottom, closing his eyes briefly to breathe in the scent of flowers in full bloom.

Vianna lifted her skirts slightly as she walked through the gardens. Her dress was heavy and she began to regret making the decision to wear it. She was thankful for the cool breeze that lightly ruffled her hair as she walked. The heat of the Great Hall had begun to affect her and she had needed to get out before it got too great. She continued to walk, her dress making it awkard for her, yet she was glad to be under the stars. Slowing her step down, she heard movement ahead of her then silence. Curiosity getting the better of her, Vianna made her way to where she heard the sound, the aroma of the roses around her filling her nose with a sweet scent. Before long she saw a figure stood still, absorbed in his surroundings. Hesitating, she let go of her skirts and stepped forward. "Hello." Vianna said softly, unsure who the man was.

Hook's eyes opened, blue as forget-me-nots, and settled on the vision before him. His lips curved, and with his good hand, he removed his hat, sketching an elaborate bow before her. "Good evening," he said, the words low, and nearly whispering of danger. As he rose, his gaze swept up the frothy confection of her dress, only stopping once they had met his gaze. "And who have we here?" he asked silkily.

Vianna smiled softly, resisting an urge inside her. "I am Vianna for this evening." She said quietly, lifting her skirts a little as she curtseyed. She wasn't sure who he was as of yet, but she denied herself to find out. She was sure she would know at some point. "I can see you are a pirate sir. May I ask of your name?" She asked, tilting her head slightly as she admired his attire.

The pirate's lips slid into a slightly wicked grin as he held up his right hand, transfigured for the night into a gleaming hook. "I am the infamous Captain Hook," he announced, one brow quirking smugly. "Who else?" There was no more famous pirate in Muggle fiction, and even if the woman knew nothing of such things, Captain Hook would never believe it.

"Ah, of course. Had I noticed what your hand had become I would have realised." Although Vianna had been born into a wizarding family, her thirst for literacy had been quelled with muggle literature. It was amusing to her how muggles could write such imaginative tales, often dreaming of meeting wonderfully magical people or creatures, yet in real life shied away from it. But then didn't everyone often shy away from what they really want? "So, Hook." She began, bending slightly to touch the red petals of a rose near to her. "Are you enjoying the ball?"

"I am," Hook said, watching the motion of Vianna's skirts as they moved with her body. "But my pirate's heart craves adventure, and alas, my heartie, I have yet to slake my thirst in that arena." Hook stepped forward then, moving toward the woman and stopping just beside her. "And you, my lovely? Where does your enjoyment lie?"

Any other time, then Vianna would have laughed at her companion's words, but tonight... Tonight they were in a different world with different rules. Tonight, everything was different. She slowly stood up, letting the rose fall from her fingertips and turned to the man beside her. "My enjoyment lies in others. If they are happy, then I, in turn, am happy." Vianna felt a warmth to her face as she blushed. She sounded rather lame in that statement, even though she spoke the truth. She could not tell him her first enjoyment for that would have revealed her identity and for now, she wished to keep that a secret. "So you crave adventure Sir? Has your life been unfruitful in that area?"

Hook gave pause at that question. The short answer was no, but what to say that would be truthful and yet give nothing away? "I have not lacked for adventure," he said, "but for the treasure that all pirates truly seek. After all, what is an adventure with no plunder to show for the effort?" True enough, in its way.

"I am sure you are right." Vianna said softly, glancing at him from beneath her lashes. "But are we talking treasure of gold and jewels or something a little different? Something with a higher value?" She began to walk away from him, glancing back over her shoulder to reassure that she wasn't leaving him. She let her hand touch each rose as she passed, her mind wondering about the man behind her, wondering where this night would go.

Hook's eyes didn't flicker, showed nothing more than he mildest intrigue, even if he felt much more. Still, he followed, his gaze meeting hers briely in that coy glance before dipping to her waist and the swish of her skirts. "A pirate dreams of only the most valuable treasures," he said, his eyes watching the soft motion of her fingers as though he could feel them. "Gold and jewels aplenty are mine, but as for the other..." He paused, letting the moment stretch. "I have yet to claim it."

Vianna listened as she walked, unsure whether their unclaimed treasures were at all similar. "But are they pipe dreams? Dreams of treasures that may never come true?" She was teasing him, she had acknowledged that fact to herself, yet there was some truth in what she said. "Maybe we all live in hope for things that we will never have. Is that not the way of life?" She paused, turning back to look at him. Wary of tripping, she lifted up her skirts a little more so her ankles were now visible. "Or are you the sort of pirate that goes out and takes what he wants?"

Hook's lips curved at Vianna's last question. "I do indeed take as I see fit, but there are some treasures which cannot simply be seized, and so I wait, I allow the treasure its moment and wait until the time is right to be seized." In reality, he was an infinitely patient man, something which had grown over time and experience.

Vianna grinned at the man. "Patience is a virtue, or so they say." She said, stopping her step. "Sometimes we are too patient and miss the chance to take what we want altogether." Vianna wasn't sure where her forwardness was coming from. Of course she often was confident with what she had to say, she had to be, yet that was a different scenario from the position she was in now. Usually she held herself back from speaking such things but with this man, she had the chance to let herself go. Just for one night. Tomorrow, neither of them would know the other and normality would continue. She would live a little tonight.
