Send A Letter||Open||Gabby

[Brenna MacKenzie]

Brenna had received a letter from her brother earlier in the week. His training had already begun and they were getting ready for their first game. Lovely, she thought sarcastically. She used to look up to her brother until the incident at her old school. Brenna had scribbled a short response even though his was three scrolls.

When Brenna had reached the Owlery she dodged bird dung that seemed to be everywhere. She finally got to safety at a nearby window. Before sending the letter off she added a question to the bottom. When are you going to tell her? It was something she always did to remind her brother of that awful night when his only son had passed away. The worst part of it was seeing her nephews mother almost everyday and not being able to say a word.

Gabby made her way steadily up to the reaches of the owlery. It had been a long time since she had sent a letter to her parents and they would worry. Gabby sighed, it hadn't been all her fault though, betwen Ryan, dodging curses and spending nights in the hospital wings, time had been short for Gabby. She had managed to scribble off a page, mentioning Ryan, not mentioning the curses and focusing on Specs and classes.

Gabby entered the owlery and wrinkled her nose at all the mess. Then she noticed a girl she recognised. Coaxing one of the school owls done then fixing her letter on before sending it off she greeted the girl, "Hi Brenna, I haven't seen you in a while." Gabby smiled at her, although Brenna was a lsytherin, she didn't seem to have anything to do with Vannah or Storm so Gabby was prepared to talk to her.

Brenna's head shot up and her expression went from tense and stressed to friendly and welcoming when she saw Gabby. "Gabby! 'Ello! 'Ow 'ave you been?" She asked as she tied the letter to her owl's foot and sent it off. She pushed the worry for her brother aside. If only she hadn't made that stupid pact, maybe she'd be able to straighten things out.

"Hi, I've not been great actually but whatever, you have to expect it here." Gabby shrugged, she was used to it now and it wasn't a big deal to her. "How are you?" Gabby had noticed Brenna's chaging facial expression, but didn't comment on it.

Brenna shrugged. "I've been wonderful." She said. She hated giving negative responses even if it weren't the full truth. "What 'as 'appened?" Brenna asked concerned. She hadn't really stayed connected with what was going on inside the school.

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

"I've had curses thrown at me, I've had Ryan save me from a curse, I've fallen off a broom, broken my wrist, gained a new scar." Gabby ticked them off on her fingers. "It's not all bad though2 she continued before negativity overwhelmed her. "I've spent some time with Ryan." A smile played on her lips as Gabby remembered her time with Ryan, it had been peaceful and sweet. It was keeping Gabby sane.

Brenna crinkled her nose. "'Oo did it to you?" She asked although she already had an idea. Who else? Unless Hogwarts had suddenly gotten a rush of god-awful Slytherins, there could only be a couple of possibilities with enough hate an anger to torture someone so innocent.

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

"Vannah tried the first time, although Ryan got hit protecting me, the second time when I got knocked off my broom was Storm." Gabby grimaced, remembering those terrible events. "Storm gave me a new scar, and Ryan now has one on his stomach." Gabby sighed, looking out the window briefly. She hadn't lied to her parents, she just hadn't told them the truth. "Enough about that," Gabby said briskly, "So.." Gabby then realsied that she didn't know what to say next and she blushed.

Brenna let out a sympathetic sigh. "It never ends with them." She said sadly. "What 'ave you been up to besides getting cursed and injured?" She asked to fill in. She acknowledged the abrupt dismissal of the topic with a small nod.

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

"I've spent time with Ryan, and Brooke. I've been working in the cafe and I met Kay in the ice cream parlour, she's new." Gabby replied, twirling her hair round her finger without thinking. "Have you been doing anything nice?" Gabby asked to keep the conversation moving.

Brenna shrugged. "Just pestering my brother about some things. Exactly what all good little sisters should do." She added a joking smile at the end of the comment. It was not as much of a joking matter as she played it up to be. Brenna figured she'd be making a trip to see him...soon. "I've been drowning in work. I haven't really noticed much that's been going on around here. Just the occasional rumor."

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

"Work? You're far too good Brenna, I don't think anybody's been doing any work recently. Well at least one of us won't fail at the end of the year I guess" Gabby said laughing. "I hope things are ok between you and your brother as well" Gabby added, wanting to offer suport but not to pry.

Brenna was silent drowning in confusion for a moment. A small smile appeared on her face after a while and she laughed a little. "Not schoolwork." She said. "Work, my job." She hadn't realized that she had confused in for at. English was always so complicated. "But, yes, schoolwork too I suppose." She looked at Gabby. "You won't fail." She insisted.

At the mention of her brother, Brenna's face fell. "My brother is as immature and idiotic as he will ever be. He is a coward." She shook her head and snapped outof her bitter trance. Red crept up her face. "I probably shouldn't talk about him like that." She said sheepishly. "Especially since I'm giving him a bad first impression to you."

Gabby laughed, "Right, sorry that was my fault, I always get mixed up." Gabby laughed at Brenna's outburst about her brother. "Don't worry," she said with a smile, "all siblings are like that. If you asked my sister about me, you would get a similar reply."

Brenna shook her head. "'e really isn't like that. 'e is very nice and caring. 'e just got himself into a mess a while ago and refuses to..." She stopped talking. "Well...nevermind. That ees not important. He is very nice and smart and talented." She ended with a nod.
